To consider going away at Easter?

I really want some sunshine. I don't normally do holidays as I'm scared of flying but plucked up the courage to go away last year and really want to go again.

However my budget is only £1500-2000 for a week for 3 of us (me, one adult DC, one mid teens). I just want somewhere hot with a pool, tv (otherwise my kids complain) free Wi-Fi (see previous comment), and all inclusive (ditto).

I found some great deals to the Balearixs. But now have realised it will be cold there at the end of March!

Is there anywhere warm at that time of year that will be cheap enpugh? I've looked at the canaries which was over 2k and not even nice hotels, or cape Verde which looked lovely but was about £2500..

Should I just put it off til summer?

I priced up today for similar but not all inclusive.
For 6 adults (dds all over 16) I could do it for 2k, but self catering.
That's flights, 3bed appt in nice complex with several pools in South tenerife and a hire car.

Eliza9917 · 04/01/2018 23:18

Look at airb&b, check skyskanner for flights, tell the kids to get jobs if they want all inc.

Jassmells · 04/01/2018 23:19

Pushing to get all inclusive for that money but maybe canaries or Malta?

kaytee87 · 04/01/2018 23:19

We're going to fuertaventura at easter Smile don't know if you could do it for that price but the weather will be nice.

Holidaydilemmas · 04/01/2018 23:22

I am reluctant to drive abroad as I only passed my test last year (I'm not even sure I can drive a hire car with less than 12 months driving experience?).

Staying somewhere s/c isn't a holiday for me, I like to be able to go away and switch off completely from responsibilities. At home I do the meal planning, cooking, washing up. I know it would be no different on holiday!

We did a week in egypt for two of us for under a grand a couple of years ago. Was all inclusive (amazing food) and boiling.

kaytee87 · 04/01/2018 23:23

We stay sc but go out for meals. Hate ai as you don't get enough choice. I like to try different restaurants.

Lotsalotsagiggles · 05/01/2018 00:20

We went to gran canaries last easter and was boiling!

The temps shown on the internet are usually in land temps and it's much warmer on the coasts!

Have a look at Tenerife. The weather blows across from Africa so it’s nice all year. It’s cheap too, I took my daughter when she was a teen and I was single, so it is very affordable.

fzpotts · 05/01/2018 03:13

Agadir will be lovely and warm at Easter plus has a pristine beach and lots of hotels with pools. I wouldn't personally go AI as I prefer to eat out but there are plenty available.

Using trip advisor to search, you can read the reviews aswell as checking prices. Check flights direct with airlines as it can be cheaper than via a TA. Try Homeaway also, weve had some cracking deals via private rentals.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/01/2018 03:17

The choice isn't SC or AI. As I tried to explain to DH! Stay in a cheaper hotel/AirBnB with WIFi, they can download Netflix stuff into their devices, they don't need a TV. Go out for meals.

And stop cooking, clearing up and meal planning for grown ass people! No wonder you need a holiday.

Feodora · 05/01/2018 03:21

Sinai penisula in Egypt for Sun earlier in the year but not sure if foreign office even advising tourists to go there? You can look up under their travel advice section.

Agadir sounds an affordable option too. What about Turkey?

Redphone · 05/01/2018 03:27

Canaries are cheap enough to eat out in - we always do that when we go self catering there. Think around 8 euros for a main course. S/c cuts down the price a lot - there are loads of nice wee two bed often two bathrooms places with cable and wifi around the £450 mark and it isn't a hassle to buy cereal, milk, bread and naice meat for breakfast and lunch. Very often the place you rent is in a complex with its own pool/bar etc. I wouldn't discount doing it that way as it's much cheaper and can often be less basic than some of the hotels.

Redphone · 05/01/2018 03:30

By self catering I mean renting a house/apartment from sites like owners direct. And book your flights with eg Skyscanner.

UnimaginativeUser · 05/01/2018 08:13

Have you considered half or full board instead of AI?

Food provided but no drinks. If you go somewhere like South Tenerife there are some really cheap drinks to be had as there’s so much competition.

YANBU

UNLESS the kid in their mid teens has exams this year (e.g. GCSEs) as they'll need Easter to revise

Branleuse · 05/01/2018 08:24

You might get fairly good weather in malta or cyprus or morrocco
Ive done malta at easter and had some days where it was a bit windy and other days where it was summer dresses and around 21 degrees.

Youve got better chance of good weather in the May half term, but i still think easter is a good time to go
