To think I've totally fucked my metabolism

For reference I'm 12 stone 11 and 5ft 3inch so considered "obese" on the BMI

January 2016 I decided to do something about my weight and lost 3 stone in about 6 months by healthy eating and exercise. I then had a car accident which meant I couldn't exercise for months, became very down and slowly piled the weight back on.

I'm now fully healed and want to lose the weight again as I'm miserable and feel awful. I mentioned it to a colleague that I've started up a diet and she laughed. I asked what was so funny and she said that I will find it harder to lose weight this time as yo yo dieting does that to your body and don't expect fantastic results I had last time.

I now feel so unmotivated. AIBU to feel I've ruined my metabolism? Or is she talking bollocks?

Clearly your mate flicked her hair through her education. You know why you put the weight on, simple science ( and understandable in the circumstances)

Slow lifestyle changes and all will be well.

I think you can recalibrate your blood sugar regulation (or something like that, not a doctor) by following a diet geared toward diabetes for a few days. That's all it takes apparently, according to dr eric berg. I have watched a few of his clips on youtube, he is a proper doctor but i think he's pounced of bits of science and inflated it in his evangelism wrt getting sluggish metabolisms going again. Eat avocados and eggs on a small piece of toast, that's one of the filling meals to kickstart your metabolism in prep for diet.

That Ines getting a bit tired now special, and it was catty enough when it was new.

@CarysMa He's probably referring to insulin resistance which you can change through cutting down on sugar (and exercise and losing fat around the stomach).

Yes that's right. He talks you thru why it works
