I know how you feel, my camcorder was stolen from my house, it had a video in it with Dd2's first steps on it. I never found out who stole it and I put the word about that I wanted the tape back, wasn't too bothered about the camera, I just wanted the tape. Never got it back.

nally · 25/04/2007 00:07

off to bed now. thanks x

this is so not nice iykwim
how does the plasterer have the brass arse to even sort of admit pinching it and now you have to have them back !! or you end up more out of pocket
(if he nicked it cant he put it back?
has he already sold it?)

if I was you would be very unsettled and watch them like a hawk --you eed that bloke from houses from hell only plaserers from hell ecret filming and shamimg

cos you have lost pics you cannot replace

GeeGee2 · 25/04/2007 00:13

Last time we had builders in, one of them used our phone to repeatedly call sex lines. When we got the bill it was for over £1000.

We were able to work out who it was as one of the decorators called his family from our phone seconds after one of his dodgy calls. No one else had been in the house at that time. He was sacked, but apparently his biggest punishment was when his boss went round to tell his wife why he had been sacked.

Another set of builders used my camera to take some dodgy photos (I'll leave the rest to your imagination.) I got a few funny looks when I picked up the film from the chemists.

nally · 25/04/2007 00:13

i was half expecting it to magically reappear whilst i was on the school run again today, but it didn't. if the camera was put back i would be happy to see it, but still would not feel safe. my friend told me not to leave any keys where they could get them as they could get copies cut. the things that go through your mind - honestly. where to hide my other stuff? i have given my neighbour some of it to look after for the rest of the week.
anyway, i am exhausted and still livid, so i am going to try and sleep now.
good night xx

If they really do have to return to your house, you should insist that seeing as what has happened, that you want the boss there at all times to watch over them.

No way would i want them back in my house.

If they've almost admitted to taking the camera, tell the boss you at the very least want the memory card returned.

This is such an awful thing to happen in your own house.

If i were you, i'd be checking all over my house for any other items that may have been taken.

Especially jewellery.

mysonsmummy · 25/04/2007 00:20

very strange. if they were going to nick something it would have been easir for thm to look around and take the cash, video camera or anything else that was hidden away.. why choose something on the table you are going to notice straight away.

Chandra · 25/04/2007 00:28

I bet that camera is going to magically appear in an unsuspected place in your house. Either because it had been misplaced or returned.

I would be furious but at the same time sad for the plasterer who didn't took it and may get a bad reputation because of this.

Have you checked your car? the fridge? the wardrobe? I tend to do things in automatic without realising why, when or where I put things out. Now that I don't have anyone to blame... I'm pretty convinced I have a ghost in my house

nappyaddict · 25/04/2007 04:00

all you people who have had stuff stolen by workmen were you in the house at the time or had you left them?

i don't ever leave workmen in my house for this reason!!

when i was younger we had some new windows fitted in my sisters bedroom. my mum had been umming and ahhing to them when they first came out about whether to replace hers or the wooden ones in the kitchen (all the others were pvc.) the night after my sisters were fitted we got broken into - through the wooden window in the kitchen.

was more than likely the workmen.

nally · 25/04/2007 08:21

one of them was a 16 year old, so maybe it was him. it is probably easier to take something you can see rather than hunting around, especially as he knew that i was going to be back soon????

if that is the case i would feel sorry for the chief plasterer fella if it was the younger one, but then why did he so quickly try to cover it up by offering to pay?

chandra - it is definitely not in my house anywhere. after they left i had a look around to see if they had stashed it somewhere to make it look like i had misplaced it. definitely not in my car. i never leave it in my car and besides the side pockets and glove box are empty.

nappyaddict - good idea about getting the boss in to babysit. i might ask today or at least say they can't be here unless i am.

nappyaddict i really dont think thats fair to say it was more than likely the workmen infact it really annoys me when people point the finger without any proof. My dp is a window fitter and gets really upset when hes done a really nice job and then his boss gets a report to say "our floor is scratched"or "he turned the freezer off and all the food is defrosted" if something like that did happen he would own up we're just glad his got a good boss.

SoupDragon · 25/04/2007 13:27

There is no way on earth I would let them back into my house.

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 13:33

I guess it depends what workmen you use. We've had various troops of workmen in (two sets of full builders doing big jobs, window replacement, several small workmen, paint job).

We often get work done when we're out of the country, as I mind being underfoot for them.

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 13:34

Oh, should have said, I've never had anything stolen.

Thinking about it, though, all the workmen have come personally recommended from someone. I've since found out one of them steals booze, but afaik never took any from me. (And I've not used him since I found out, obviously.)

nally · 25/04/2007 14:58

should have said fussymummy - good idea about the boss being there, not nappyaddict (it was late, i was tired)

today the older plasterer fella has come back, accompanied by the boss' nephew, so i think he must have been sent as a babysitter. the 16 year old is not here.

forgot to say, it was the first time this plasterer fella had been used by the company.

anyway, off on the school run. will check back later x

nappyaddict · 25/04/2007 18:26

sorry should have said the police said it was more than likely the workmen. when they tried to find them the company mysteriously no longer existed.
