A woman on my local FB group has posted a GoFundMe link asking for 27k for university fees, because she's not eligible for a loan and has decided she wants to work in TV. Makes much of how the government has screwed over students and it's an outrage etc.

In the comments, it's revealed that she has actually had four years of funding, but wants to study something different now.

Yeah, I'd retrain if someone gave me 27k too Grin Grin Grin

We had a twit trying to crowdfund to pay for her and her dog to go overseas and compete in a dog competition. Of course, she didn't get it, as she was an absolute lying bitch who had alienated nearly everyone in the breed by that point, but apparently we should have all been supportive of her. Fuck off was the only response I had.

Llangollen · 04/01/2018 22:29

I still don't get why asking makes you a CF? Are people jealous at the idea they might get the money that was asked for?

Just.. don't give yourself. As long as people don't lie, make-up some sob-stories but are truthful, who cares?

YellowMakesMeSmile · 04/01/2018 22:33

Nothing surprises me anymore. That's at least three I've seen today with this one, the one raising money so they can run the marathon and another for children wanting to go on a trip.

Cbaanymore123 · 04/01/2018 22:35

Some girl did a go fun me for her dogs vet bill she claims to love so much.

Loves so much ,she didn't have insurance.

Then she posted online her new designer bag and trainers. What a joke

Good luck to her!

I’m currently studying for my second Degree, and had worked incredibly hard to pay back all of my student loan from my first Degree (along with assistance from a family member). I applied for a loan for my second Degree, which my DH and I just assumed as a SAHM I would of course get, but I’m not entitled as I have a Degree already!

My DH and I were determined I would obtain another Degree, so I’ve now had to stretch it out over 6 years instead of 4 in order for him to be able to afford my fees.

To add insult to injury, I’m studying a subject that this country says it really needs. I’m also a qualified Teacher, and the subject I’m now studying is one of those which is in very high demand. I’ll do everything in my power now to do something other than Teaching when I graduate - why the fuck should I be ‘helping out’ when they can’t help me?! Cunts!

People used to be able to obtain a loan for their second Degree, until the Labour government abolished this entitlement. I can understand why they did this, but I believe that people like me who have paid all the money back, should be allowed to obtain a second loan.

I've just taken out a ridiculously us load to do my degree that il will be paying off until I die. I'm 59, a single parent, I run a small business relevant to my degree and I'd love someone else to pay for it. But they won't, so I cracked on. So no. Yanbu

gingergenius · 04/01/2018 22:54

48 not 59

LegallyBrunet · 05/01/2018 00:23

I dunno, I can see both sides here. I did nearly two years of a nursing degree but had no choice but to leave due to ill health. I went back to college, got a distinction in Access to HE: Law and a place to study law at uni. Assumed I'd be fine for the funding as when I did my nursing my tuition fees were paid by the NHS only to be told I'd used two years funding and would have to self fund my first year which would mean pulling 9k from nowhere in three months. Thankfully I managed to produce evidence that stated I had no choice but to leave nursing and was awarded additional funding but it was scary, especially as I am very passionate about my subject, had a place on a course waiting for me and now aspire to be a solicitor. So I can see why see people choose to crowd fund.

gingergenius · 05/01/2018 01:53

Tbf I can see the relevance of it was for a keyworker role but the minute we do
That the government will change the goalposts again. I'm hiding under my duvet now!

MrsGloop · 05/01/2018 02:03

A friend of mine (who I thought had more sense, quite honestly) posted a GoFundMething to pay for her sons trip to Madagascar. Just a “please help him pay for this great adventure”...people have no shame.

LemonysSnicket · 05/01/2018 02:05

No, I know a girl who crowdfunded for a holiday her holiday because her girlfriend had never been abroad. £400 to go to Ireland ( what!!!???).

MinorRSole · 05/01/2018 02:37

Well this has been a revelation. I sometimes get sent these page links requesting money but it's a friend running a marathon for cancer or similar. I had no idea people raised money just because.

I've always fancied going to Egypt. It's a long held dream and would make me sooo happy........ of course I would then have to actually stay there because I'd be too embarrassed to come home!

NewPapaGuinea · 05/01/2018 07:52

TV career: start as a runner and work your way up.

JagerPlease · 05/01/2018 08:55

I strongly suspect I'm also in this Facebook group, and if so, she has raised a grand total of £10 looking at her go fund me!

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 05/01/2018 09:02

Another example of a CF raising money for vet bills twice for her many dogs . I already knew her to be a CF in RL . The next week having raised said money from gullible friends she showed off her valuable collection of toys worth thousands . It really annoyed me but the only thing I felt I could do was ignore it. Some day when I get the courage I will tell her what a CF she is for the many other things she does.

FlakeBook · 05/01/2018 09:20

An acquaintance has decided to travel round Europe with her family and is asking for people to fund it.

They will "teach first aid" as they go but also learn more about other cultures and share their knowledge via a blog.

Very pretentious and self important crowd funding page...it's called "Revealing Rainbows" and belongs in pseud's corner in private eye!

SinceWhenDid · 05/01/2018 09:32

just read revealing rainbows...

snurfflepots · 05/01/2018 10:48

I know somebody who is crowd funding 250,000 to buy a house... I have no words.

pepperminttaste · 05/01/2018 10:53

My sister works with a woman who is emigrating with her husband. They crowdfunded to raise money to pay for food and bills, etc when they moved because it was so expensive to emigrate that they would be strapped for cash otherwise and could we spare any money to help them out. This was months ago. They have apparently raised a tenner.

NewPapaGuinea · 05/01/2018 10:58

Haha, revealing rainbows - they make it sound they going on a missionary spreading knowledge and good will. Blooming hippies!

FlakeBook · 05/01/2018 11:00

It's something special isn't it, Since !!!

Worrying how many people have donated.

QueenArseClangers · 05/01/2018 11:35

Fucking hell, if those ‘Revealing Rainbow’ folk want to learn about permaculture and sustainable living then why don’t they visit Lammas in Pembrokeshire?

SinceWhenDid · 05/01/2018 12:00

Maybe the people donating are desperate to be rid of them 😄

parklives · 05/01/2018 17:00

I don't think anyone working at the BBC has studied 'media studies' , don't most of them come from Oxford/Cambridge Colleges?

Fekko · 05/01/2018 17:34

Or London uni (2 that I know). Neither studied media.
