I genuinely don't know. Was a bit disappointed

When DSis got pregnant at uni the pressure to have an abortion was appalling and really put me off calling myself pro-choice.

Feeling like a woman's choices were being ignored or dismissed made you feel less pro-choice? Do you know what pro-choice means?

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 19:43

Ah mum of 56 youre back. Are you able to address any of the points I made in response to you?

OP posts:
Mumof56 · 04/01/2018 19:45

Have you ever met a SPUC-er? I have. One of the most disgusting sickos I have ever met in my life

As sick as someone who advocates immolation.

So far in this thread we have suggestions of censorship of information and setting fire to people.

Hmm
peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 04/01/2018 19:46

Nobody advocated anything. You are terribly literal, aren't you?

BertrandRussell · 04/01/2018 19:47

Funny how this incredible pressure to have an abortion always happens to a friend or a family member.....

And pro choice doesn’t not mean forced abortion. Unlike pro life, which actually does mean forced birth.

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 19:48

My op asked the question. I have been open to the different points of view. Yet some posters have suggested I am censoring things and would like to burn them.
Madness

There is something very wrong with the phrase 'pro-abortion'. The correct phrase is 'pro-choice'. You either support a woman's right to have autonomy over her body, or you don't.

'Pro-abortion' implies something quite different, ie. that the only response to pregnancy is to have an abortion. It's a phrase usually only used by anti-abortionists.

IMO 'pro-life' is also a misnomer. People who are anti-choice should more accurately be described as 'forced birthers'.

Coconutspongexo · 04/01/2018 19:48

I think I read upthread someone mentioned pro abortion - there’s no such thing as pro abortion ffs it’s pro choice which is very different to pro abortion (can’t remember who it was sorry)

BertrandRussell · 04/01/2018 19:48

“So far in this thread we have suggestions of censorship of information“

Information is fine. Propaganda is not. SPUC is propaganda.

Coconutspongexo · 04/01/2018 19:49

Sorry I see I’ve cross posted

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 19:49

But I do not think the opposite if pro life is pro choice, as many are assuming

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 19:50

Me dipping. Explain how the opposite of pro life is pro choice please.

OP posts:
Coconutspongexo · 04/01/2018 19:51

It wasn’t you stealth but anyway

Pro abortion means that those who are pro abortion believe that anyone who is pregnant should have an abortion.

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 19:52

Yes
And pro life is the polar opposite imo
Pro choice is beteeen the two

Simple logic surely

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 19:53

People are saying the opposite of pro life is pro choice. I disagree strongly

OP posts:
Coconutspongexo · 04/01/2018 19:53

But no one is pro abortion are they? It’s not a thing

theymademejoin · 04/01/2018 19:54

"The picture of the leaflet the op posted makes it clear that getting rid of it is an option."

If SPUC are involved, any mention of abortion will include a description of the dire consequences that befall all women who have abortions; a description of women who thought about having an abortion but saw the light and now have amazing life because they didn't murder their unborn child; and graphic details about how a baby is torn limb from limb and suffers excruciating pain during the abortion.

They are a very, very extreme group. Abortion is not acceptable to them under any circumstances.

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 19:56

Well as a pp suggested a private clinic might be strongly pro abortion and might try and convince women to part with their dosh. I'd have huge problems with that sort of leaflet.
Basically when it comes to unwanted pregnancy anyone with an agenda other than supporting the woman to consider the options and consequences for her is in my bad books

OP posts:
peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 04/01/2018 19:57

Pro abortion means that those who are pro abortion believe that anyone who is pregnant should have an abortion

Thats not a thing though. Nobody is proabortion.

"Pro life" (anti choice) literally does mean that they beleive nobody ever should have an abortion, no matter what.

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 19:58

Every abortion hurts a woman and kills a baby apparently.
Make every baby welcome
I have a tutor who has lectures on women's health, including reproductive rights. I might talk to her about it next time I see her.

Mumof56 · 04/01/2018 19:59

Yet some posters have suggested I am censoring things and would like to burn them

Hmm No one said you suggested that. If you read the posters I was responding to you will see it is them that suggested that's the action they feel should be taken.
Mumof56 · 04/01/2018 20:00

Every abortion hurts a woman and kills a baby apparently

Evet abortion is pain free and no babys are hurt

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 20:01

You suggested I burn them and asked if I knew who burned books. Or was that someone else.

OP posts:
twofingerstoEverything · 04/01/2018 20:02

Every abortion hurts a woman
Mine didn't.
An unwanted birth could have, though, both emotionally and physically.

StealthPolarBear · 04/01/2018 20:02

But both those statements are crap, do you see? Only one is on this leaflet
