what did you think of it? and what is it that makes it a 12a??

My dc have seen the trailer and want to see it, they're 9 and 6. A friend has seen it and said her 5 yr old loved it.

*They have seen films such as fantastic beasts, harry potter, superhero films, Jurrasic park/world and have been fine with all these, not scared and know that if they hear certain language they arent to repeat it (tbh they hear bad language walking around town on a weekend and know theyre bad words they dont repeat)

Not sure, maybe because there’s a bit of adult innuendo in it? I saw it with a teen but would definitely have been happy to take kids the ages you specify to see it. Was a good movie and I can see how different age groups would get different things out of it, in a good way.

SLRGPW · 04/01/2018 11:00

I would say that it is on par with Jurassic Park/ world. There are a few scary animal bits but nothing awful as far as I remember and my 5/ 7/ 9 year olds were fine with it. I can’t think of any bad language...

IAmInCharge · 04/01/2018 11:02

My DC watched it around the same age as yours, I didn't find anything inappropriate. Some scenes might be a bit "unsettling" for sensitive children I guess, although if they're watching with a parent they should be fine. It's a movie we enjoyed and DC have seen it a few more times since then.

fairgame84 · 04/01/2018 11:03

The new jumanji or the original?
If you look on imdb they normally have a parents guide which tells you what sort of inappropriate things are in the film.

Imaginosity · 04/01/2018 11:03

Common sense media say its 11+ but my 6 and 8 year olds loved it.

Have a look at this -it explains what swear words etc are in this film

This is the patents guide for the new version

I've seen it and there were a lot of very young children there. None of them left! There is some sexual innuendo and some frightening scenes. I'd say it is probably similar in gore levels to Jurassic Park. It obviously depends on your children. My DD would definitely have been scared by it at age 6, but my DS would probably have been fine.

Why not check out IMDB parental guide?

Its a great film by the way!

Glumglowworm · 04/01/2018 11:10

I suspect it’s due to the innuendo, there’s much made of Jack Black (who plays a teenage girl... it does make sense) discovering his penis

I don’t think it’s as scary as the original, there’s more fight scenes though

I love it and have seen it twice Blush (in my defense my local cinema is extremely cheap)

justilou1 · 04/01/2018 11:11

My kids are older, 11 y/o DTS and 13 y/o know it all. They loved it. There were a couple of unnecessary dick jokes which may or may not sail over their heads. Apart from that, it's pretty harmless. My opinion was quite different to theirs. The plot was full of holes, I was underwhelmed by Karen Gillan's role (I loved her so much in Dr Who) and the Rock was soggy, at best. I was facebooking in my handbag before it was over.

Hoppinggreen · 04/01/2018 11:13

We all loved it but my youngest is 9.
There was some sexual innuendo that would probably go above littles ones heads but there are some scary bits too.

Beamur · 04/01/2018 11:20

My DD age 10 saw it this week and loved it. Wants to see it again.

KC225 · 04/01/2018 11:22

My kids love the original.

Glowerglass · 04/01/2018 11:26

My 10 year old thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a bit of innuendo which went over his head and a peeing with a penis joke which he thought was hilarious,

Some scary animal bits but nothing serious.

We had to leave Wonderwoman as he was very disturbed by a scene when the villians realeased a poison gas and were laughing. And that was a 12 A. There is nothing comparable in Jumanji.

tellitlikeitispls · 04/01/2018 11:31

Took the 10 and 8 year old and they both really enjoyed it. I take them to see all the 12's though so they are used to it.
Nothing too scary. I think they were a little confused by the plotline but they didn't seem to care much.
I liked it too, although I thought they could have picked leads who actually looked high school age. Only the redheaded girl imo passed for a schoolkid. I looked up 'fridge' on imdb afterwards. He's 30!

Jux · 04/01/2018 11:49

I would imagine the innuendo would go over their heads.

MrsU88 · 04/01/2018 14:42

Sorry yes I meant the new one.
They have seen the original one and we're fine with it. I've looked at the film board thing and it's all vague so wanted some real parent views.

Thanks. Dh wants to see it too (which is a rarity he wants to see a film)

We saw it the other day. I took 11, 7,7,8 (two s) And they LOVED It!

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 04/01/2018 18:37

My youngest is 8 and he loved it. Yes, there is a bit of inneuendo and the Jack Black discovery bit, but I’d have been happy with it being PG.

iwantavuvezela · 04/01/2018 18:40

Took two ten year olds who loved it. One or two innuendos were missed. Rather good fun and got a thumbs up from all of us.

Maysong · 04/01/2018 18:58

Although we went with our now grown up children there was a great mixture of all ages at the show and plenty of families. There was innuendo but the story was very gripping and kept people's attention. We enjoyed it and so did the other people there.

Gammeldragz · 04/01/2018 19:05

Watched with DD7 and DS 10 and 11. Fine for all apart from the erection joke which DD obviously didn't get and wanted to know what they were on about (much distraction required), not sure if the boys got it but they didn't seem bothered. Not too violent and fairly entertaining. Glad I had free tickets though as it wasn't great, maybe 3/5?

toriatoriatoria · 04/01/2018 19:08

We enjoyed it, I think the 12a is for some innuendo.

jmh740 · 04/01/2018 21:48

My 8 and 10 year olds enjoyed it. Was some innuendo but most of it went over their heads.

Amanduh · 04/01/2018 21:49

Haven't seen the new one. The original scared me!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 04/01/2018 21:55

My 7 and 10 yr old loved it. Some ‘bad’ language - shit, ass, lots of penis jokes, an erection innuendo which went straight over the 7 yr olds head.

Less scary than the original I thought, I think the rating is due to the very mild swear words. The only thing I would be wary of in future seeing a 12A is that some of the trailers really weren’t appropriate for a 7 year old (our own fault I know).

It’s really good btw, I wasn’t expecting it to be anywhere near as good as it is!
