And if you do, where do you go?

I like looking around London where I used to live and finding lovely streets to admire.

Also, love looking around various parts of America. I found this the other week

Skid Row! Shock Sad

I wandered about there for a while and it's so awful...looks like some really poor country.

Argh, just spent the last hour on Geo Guesser after seeing it mentioned here. It is so addictive!!! Need to stop ignoring my baby now!

DS (aged 5) and I love going on our little 'Google Holidays' Grin

We started when he was a toddler and asked what somewhere looked like, so I showed him on Google Maps - he said it was like going on a holiday there so I asked where else he wanted to 'go' - we've spent many a happy half hour wandering in random places to see what is there. It's great if I'm telling him about somewhere I;ve been in the past, so I can show him exactly where and how things happened.

DS1 discovered you can wander around in the International Space Station recently and spent ages exploring.

SnowFairyDust · 04/01/2018 14:01

Oh wow, geo guesser is amazing!!

Roomba · 04/01/2018 14:07

I used to be on Streetview with DS2 - if you looked at our corner shop, I was on the pavement outside the shop strapping DS into his buggy while he objected Grin. He thought it was hilarious. The photo has been updated now though.

I spent a good portion of my recent hospital stay looking at the German border which has some really interesting parts.

magpiemischief · 04/01/2018 14:48

I do this. My favourite is looking up the real locations in fiction which includes real locations.

I also go onto Right Move and look up in 'houses sold' the houses I knew in childhood where people have subsequently moved and friends or relations whose address I know but have not visited. I really want my grandparent's old house to come up for sale so I can see how it has altered. Can't have been sold for years!

Borridge · 04/01/2018 17:23

People!! I need to do sports and tidy my house. Don’t show me more wonderful ways of procrastinating, please!

greenlids · 04/01/2018 17:38

I look at random bits of countryside, looking for unusual crop marks and ancient earthworks etc. Never found anything, but it keeps me amused Grin

PhoenixDown · 04/01/2018 17:49

Yes!

I love looking at really remote islands and zooming in to see villages and roads, wondering about the lives people live there.

Pitcairn Island has street view, one of the most remote inhabited islands - inhabited by descendants of the Bounty mutineers. I've had a good wander around there (perhaps I need to get a life) Grin

pieandmashliquornotgravy · 04/01/2018 18:41

Not sure how, but a friend manages to 'enter' restaurants and hotels on street view. There is a symbol which shows you which buildings too. This is London.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 04/01/2018 22:46

So I’ve lost a day to geoguessr, so bloody addictive Grin

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 04/01/2018 23:07

My DP has a VR headset so we go on google earth and its like being there - went to all my old houses, school etc, places we've been on holiday. Love having a nosy about.

SistersOfPercy · 04/01/2018 23:13

My mum died last year and I went for a wander in her Street after the house had been sold. There she was in the street walking the dog as she always did. First time I saw it I cried. Now it makes me smile.
(I did screen shot it)

Spent most of this week walking around our holiday destination and finding nIce places to eat.

undertheradarplease · 04/01/2018 23:28

@Acronymsforall what the fuck have you done? I'm obsessed. You're a bloody fool and I love you Flowers

DontCallMeCharlotte · 04/01/2018 23:32

I do it a lot and can get lost for hours. I was showing someone at work my house recently and lo and behold there was DH walking up the garden path!

@magpiemischief My granny's house came up recently (she died over 40 years ago). It was a sweet little two up - two down but now it's been massively done up.

Fascinating stuff.

Abbotswood · 04/01/2018 23:40

I try to but can never get Google maps to do what I want....how do I scroll up and down on a map (ie if I'm looking at Brigton move up to London) without it going crazy large or crazy small? Blush

FluffyWuffy100 · 04/01/2018 23:43

@Roomba I love the idea of showing your DS google holidays
