to be a bit shocked by the Christmas topic

Someone mentioned it on a thread yesterday and I ventured in out of curiosity. There are people on there anticipating and planning Christmas from about April on, discussing Christmas in August, worrying about it in June?????

Fair enough, people want to spread the cost across a few months, but beyond that why on earth would you be planning Christmas and talking about it in the middle of Summer?

AIBU to find this a bit strange?

I already have my first two Christmas presents as I pick bits up as I see them over the year and have a final shop by the end of November. I will not go out into shops at all in December as that ruins my festive feeling. Starting early takes all the stress away and usually means better gifts too.

I have 8 children- at one point, I had 5, 5, 7, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15. I had to start early! Also, this way, I save money and don't feel as rushed. DS2 is also in the military so we can't always see him for Christmas, so I like to have his presents done by August so that he can always take them with him/open early.
They're now 19, 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29.
Worst part was Santa taking all the fucking credit. [Grin]

I'm another one who starts early. Not because of the money, but because it's more relaxing to buy little and often. I'm a teacher, and the autumn term is incredibly stressful work wise, so I often start picking bits up in the summer when I have the free time and am not at work.

Certain items I wouldn't buy until nearer the time (main presents, the daddy items (like unicorn stuff), but there are certain generic presents my dc like their stockings such as stationery bits, makeup, smellies etc.. so if I see something I know they'd like, I it it and put it away until Xmas.

The other reason is that I have 3 major birthdays in Nov /Dec (DH and DC) so would find it stressful having to buy all the presents + organise two birthday parties + all the other stuff that comes with Christmas - Christmas play, parties etc etc...

This means that when Nov comes, it's not all a stress organising birthday parties, Christmas etc etc, and I can enjoy it. By and large, most years I finish buying all my presents by end of Nov, so tree can go up first weekend in December, and I can relax and enjoy Christmas.

But then, I'm one of life's planners. Booked my 2018 holiday last year, and am currently planning my 2019 holiday.... but the OP probably wouldn't like this either!

Why, thank you for your interest Mrsmadevans ☺. I have two pairs of gorgeous lace tights for grown up girls and my crackers too. All half price or less. Isn't it odd that some people find this sad and wishing your life away?

Mrsmadevans · 03/01/2018 22:20

I know Rain and I have to say I don't understand it because we are all the most inoffensive nice group on Mumsnet imho. The tights sound gorgeous btw. I must get my crackers!

I'm getting the warm fuzzies reading about other people's Christmas prep now and suspect the OP of being a double agent on a mission to attract more MNers to the Christmas topic!
