To think there should be far far more serious consequences for indecent child image users?!

This guy shared hundreds of them and downloaded ones "of the most serious type" ie rape, possibly worse.

And he gets no jail sentence?

What message is this sending out to other would be perpetrators. Basically go ahead and do it. I know they get paton a register but it's not the same deterrent as a long jail sentence is it? Yet someone who has stolen money through fraud etc gets years in jail. Makes me sick :(

This country’s justice system has always put money ahead of life, tax evaders, etc, receiving longer sentences than paedophiles and rapists, says a lot about this government’s priorities

It's articles like the above where the perpetrator has actively and knowingly downloaded specific real images and shared them with others online but walked free other than being put on a register.

I agree IF that is true, but that's not what I read in the article.

I am not defending people who do this, even if it comes across that way, what I am saying is that we don't know that, the reporters don't know that. The judge had all the information.

The report of "the most serious type" could be one of the examples I gave, it could also be what we think of when we see those words.

As for longer sentences, a man walked free after raping a 13 year old because she 'looked 19' and 'consented'. Violence against women and girls, and it mostly girls is so accepted by society that it is not treated seriously.

Mick Philpot tried to murder one of his girlfriends years before his TV 'fame'. He stabbed her multiple times and punctured many of her internal organs, she has needed several operations over the years. He also stabbed the girlfriend's mother multiple times. For attempted murder and grievous bodily harm with intent to kill the mother he spent less than 4 years in prison.

I have worked in a NHS mental health hospital where there were many sex offenders, I do not believe for one second that paedophiles can be rehabilitated, they believe what they do and their desires are normal. I do not work in that field any more since having children.
If I 'accidentally' downloaded an image of a child being abused I'd physically gouge my own eyes out. It's never really an accident is it?

I work in a prison and can answer any (general) questions about prison life ( different categories / prisons has their own regimes)

Bobster, it can certainly be done inadvertently. The police and court accept this. There are myriad other reasons too. Most people who download these images require help; they have no intention of committing contact offences nor do they.

I think given your clear lack of understanding and your labelling of anyone who has committed an offence involving images as a paedophile, it's a very good thing you are no longer working with people with mental health issues.

I am going to get flamed but I don’t care. I have had first hand experience of it when young. Put all paedophiles on a remote cold island and leave them there. Sorry

An ex friend of mine is currently serving a sentence for downloading images of children.

Through out the initial release of it, most people turned their backs on him. A few didn't. "It was only a few pictures. He only downloaded them so it's ok" "they were teens not real little children so it's ok"

I was disgusted that people were making excuses for him.

What is worse though, is he had a girlfriend at the time, who left him immediately when she found out what he had done.

His friends started hounding her instead. Calling her selfish for leaving him, how she shouldn't have turned him in as it was only a couple of photos (she hadn't).

It was really sickening
