To bin all my underwear and start again?

So when I was pregnant all I could wear were big black cotton granny pants. (For a number of reasons not suited to polite company lol) Now I'm postpartum I've been going through my socks and underwear and realise it's all old, tatty, dyed slightly grey and most of my socks have shrunk (how?!?) or have holes in them.

So would I be unreasonable to just bin the lot and start again with a 'capsule wardrobe' of underwear and socks? Grin

Also any recommendations of nice comfy ones are acceptable lol!

I did this and loved it! I loved buying new underwear, comfortable and sexy!
I found asdas knickers were brill and cheap too

Clandestino · 02/01/2018 15:38

bin bin bin them and buy new ones.
I'm not into M&S otherwise but they have nice and comfy underwear.

TheQueenOfWands · 02/01/2018 15:39

Yes! New year, new pants.

My nicest undies come from Freya, Curvy Kate and George at ASDA. Best socks come from Accessorize.

BikeRunSki · 02/01/2018 15:39

Yep, do it.

MotherOfBeagles · 02/01/2018 15:42

Never would have thought to look at Asda! Thanks for the tip ladies!

Yes! I want to do this, over the past year the synthetic atrocities of my younger years have caused me to react in ways that aren't becoming to anyone!
I'm wary of buying new bras though because I want to lose quite a bit of weight so I don't want to buy them and then shrink.

heinztomatosoup · 02/01/2018 15:43

Asda do lovely ones with lace tops, I buy the minis Smile

upaladderagain · 02/01/2018 15:46

If you need a couple of new bras to tide you over until the weight shifts try TKMaxx - they do Calvin Klein, Elle McPherson and several other nice ranges at a fraction of the price.

IrkThePurist · 02/01/2018 15:46

Asda minis fit like a glove and last for ever. I've tried a few of their cheap bras (I'm not well built) and they're pretty comfy, plus they wash and wear.

Elsiejane · 02/01/2018 15:49

TitsalinaBumSqoosh
Try shrink them in the wash too? So they shrink with you lol

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 02/01/2018 15:51

I have recently done this! Binned all my fraying knackered old knickers! Got three bras the same, a black, white and nude t-shirt bra (that covers all eventualities for me!) and bought four packs of four plain black cotton hi-legs from Tesco. They have a nice trim, wash well and are very comfy (and don't give me VPL!). Now I am all sorted!

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 02/01/2018 15:51

(Mid-typed fraying and it corrected to farting!) How apt! GrinGrin

whoareyoukidding · 02/01/2018 15:52

Yes! I think it's a really good idea.

Ikabod · 02/01/2018 16:04

I considered doing exactly the same thing this morning. I still have a pair of knickers that I bought in September 2006 (due to lost luggage, which is how I know!). My undies draw is so full of faded knickers and odd socks I can hardly close it. Sod it! I'm going to dump the lot and get new stuff Grin

nohopeleft · 02/01/2018 16:08

m&s knickers all the way.

Tinselistacky · 02/01/2018 16:10

When I binned exh I also binned all my undies!! Def recommend it to newly single ladies!!

Efferlunt · 02/01/2018 16:10

I spend hours pairing my black socks. Tempted to chuck out the lot and replace with all indentical ones

LottieandSeth · 02/01/2018 16:11

TU in sainsburys do lovely bras with matching knickers - dead comfy and good price - even better when they have their 25% off !

StrongerThanIThought76 · 02/01/2018 16:14

After my divorce (many years of emotional and financial abuse) I gradually binned every single holey sock, greying granny/period/safe pants and saggy safe bra.

My drawers are now bursting with underwear in every single colour and style and I love wearing matching underwear!

Supermarkets have been my saviour, plus places like Debenhams sale and even Ann Summers sale (they do normal stuff as well as the less-is-more variety!).

Synecdoche · 02/01/2018 16:16

New knickers!! GAP undies and socks are the best. They keep their shape and softness and wash really well. Practical and pretty!

moita · 02/01/2018 16:18

I did similar after losing the baby weight. It makes a world of difference.

Hogtini · 02/01/2018 16:21

Why would it be unreasonable? Treat yourself!

Ginkypig · 02/01/2018 16:21

It's weird I was just thinking the same I pulled a pair of knickers this morning and realised I had bought them in 2011.

Then realised they were what in my head I still thought of as my new knickers! Shock

Papergirl1968 · 02/01/2018 16:22

I usually wear black cotton granny-ish knickers from M&S or Asda but since I’ve entered the peri menopause and got more sensitive in the nether regions, I find them irritating. I wish I could find some really soft ones without seams.
I did find some on the internet by a company called Chaffree that I might try but they’re quite expensive.
Does anyone have any other recommendations?

HumbleCrumble · 02/01/2018 16:26

I did this recently and it's great! The novelty of having bras and pants that match and are still the colour they should be...

If you've got an M&S Sparks card, 20% off bras comes round every few months as an offer. Between that and the 3 for 2 on pants, I saved about a quarter of what I spent (which was still way too much! Got carried away Grin)
