Finding a 'home' for random things at home AIBU

AIBU to ask your advice on how to keep everything tidy and in order please?

As it's a new year, I want to finally try and find a way of keeping everything in order so that my house is tidy and so I can everything I need relatively easily.

I've done the whole Kon-Mari thing, and the bit that I struggle with most is how to deal with 'miscellaneous objects'.

In my room, for instance, I've got all sorts of random stuff that I have no idea how to sort or where to put e.g. an armband to put my phone in for running and other random bits and pieces that I need but can't seem to find a place for.

Any advice please?

Oh and with the 5p bag charge in full swing, I have re-usuable bags in my handbag so I never ever seem to have carrier bags when I need them.
OK, I don't have a Bag-of-Bags spilling everywhere but its a bum when I need one Hmm

Lonelylinda get paperless billing and set up direct debits/pay online?

Chargers stay in the three or four plugs where phones and tablets naturally come to rest. Next to the bed, Office, by the door. It is a SIN to unplug and remove a charger, :)

Cables have a plastic box in the Office labelled ‘the box from hell’. Mostly cables go in and don’t come out until it is time to throw them away!

Declutter by chucking the ecoegg, does nothing. Total con!

Running armband would go in my sports clothes drawer

Noooooo I love my EcoEgg - true it is rubbish on whites but its really nice on delicates (my machine does a cold or 30 wool cycle which is 39 minutes . Works really well and no worries with rinsing out suds)

And it takes up no room, I keep it in a zipped net bag though in case it spills its pellets

As usual in these cases, seems impossible to find out what is actually in the ecoegg. But apparently it is natural so that's all right.

As is polio....

My husband has lots of cables, so what he's started doing is putting each one in a small freezer bag, and writing on the bag what the cable is from. This serves two purposes: 1/ No more unidentified random cables, and 2/ It stops them becoming tangled up.
He then keeps them all in a box.

OP, what other misc things do you have?

ChickenVindaloo2 · 01/01/2018 22:17

I stick a label on the plug of each of my cables to show what it charges eg "ipad", "kindle", "mobile phone" "camera" "toothbrush". Or if it has no plug or just a small plug, I just wrap a label round the cord itself, leaving a "tab" to write on.

Actually, I label all of my plugs so I can easily pull out the right one when necessary. Eg "alarm clock", "lamp", "iron", "electric blanket"

Then I coil them up and keep them in a drawer which has dividers in it.

I look forward to wireless electricity tbh.

Bills/mail to be dealt with:

  1. goes on coffeetable and is dealt with within 24 hours or in a pinch:
  2. Diarise to deal with it and put in "in tray" which I keep on bookcase in spare room with my household admin.

We have streamlined all bills so much that there really aren’t any! Everything is either on DD or paperless. When Tomorrows World told me this thirty years ago, I didn’t believe them, but it really is true and rather wonderful :)
