I can't wait to get the damned things away. Was going to wait til the 3rd but I'm over it.

Not at all. I love Christmas but it's done now and the bloody tree takes up so much space (tiny house rather than huge tree). I wanted it down a few days ago but DS cried and declared his undying love for it Hmm, but he's off to Nana's for a few hours tomorrow so down it comes. Grin

Notso · 31/12/2017 21:44

I hate taking them down, everywhere looks bare and cold, plus all the bits of the house in need of attention seem to be highlighted.
It takes ages to put everything away too, so I won't be doing it until the kids are in school.
Hopefully this time next year I'll have a house I love and I might be delighted to put them away.

M5tothesouthwest · 31/12/2017 21:49

Ours will stay up until 12th night. But we didn't put them up until 16th, none of this Christmas in November nonsense; I'm quite traditional.

But it's fine to do what suits you Smile

Bananasandwicheseveryday · 31/12/2017 22:02

I love the cosy and warm feeling created by the Christmas tree, lights and the other decorations. My decorations have been collected over almost forty years and many have sentimental associations, so whilst I love unwrapping them every year, to put on the tree, I always feel sad when I have to wrap them up again to be stored away. Although it's nice to get the room back to normal, I'm not in a hurry to do it, so my decorations will be taken down on 6th January.

Kidssendingmenuts · 31/12/2017 22:11

God no! I ripped those buggers down on the 27th and got my living room back!

ChristinaParsons · 31/12/2017 22:12

I haven’t put them up yet

Redpriestandmozart · 31/12/2017 22:13

Yes sad, I always think what will happen in the year until they are up again, who will be gone, even if I will see the tree again next year! I am prone to morbid thoughts :(

Gatehouse77 · 31/12/2017 22:30

Ours doesn't go up until Christmas Eve and comes down on 6th Jan. We've only deviated from that once when we were going to PiL before Christmas Eve.

I don't necessarily do it because it's traditional but it's what my family did growing up and DH is happy with it. The kids were saying that most of their friends think we're weird (not just for that tho!) and i asked if they wanted to change it but they all said no. They like that we put the tree up (and other bits), have their photo taken for their stocking holders, we bake leibkuchen for tree biscuits and have our evening meal by candlelight. Followed by hot chocolate, tree biscuit and Christmas stories - love it!

Celticlassie · 31/12/2017 22:34

I love my tree and will be gutted when it's down, but there is a nice feeling of freshness when they're down.

UrgentScurryfunge · 31/12/2017 22:39

We're only halfway through Christmas! I keep mine up until the 12th night. I hate the bleak darkness in January once they've all gone. 12th night is conveniently on a weekend this year too.

ProseccoMamam · 31/12/2017 22:45

@Gatehouse77 you are the only poster I have come across on here that also does the decorations Christmas Eve!! Mine go up on the eve and down Boxing Day. It's our family tradition to put the tree up while listening to Christmas songs and then chill out in the evening with a Christmas Eve box (hot chocolate, new pj's and slippers) and watch elf and then the grinch. Lots of people also think we are weird but we LOVE it! So many happy memories and a lot less stress.

dontbesillyhenry · 31/12/2017 22:49

People are mental. Put their tree up ages before it's Christmas then Christmas afternoon start whinging how awful it is Christmas is over

MozzchopsThirty · 31/12/2017 22:51

Nope I took mine down on Boxing Day Grin

Bluebell1981 · 31/12/2017 22:53

Down today and so nice to have DS toy storage back where it should be Grin things in places they shouldn't be over the last while has been seriously bugging me, so I am delighted that normality has been restored!

QuimJongUn · 31/12/2017 22:58

Christmas isn't over! As a poster on another thread said, Christmas is a season, not a day. We do festive stuff right up until Twelfth Night, and there's a sort of festive glow all through January until the booze runs out

Our tree/decs will be coming down next Sunday morning after our Twelfth Night party on Saturday. Between now and then there's a week of food, Bailey's, outings and luxuriating in the glow of about a million fairy lights still to go. A lot of the lights will stay up until the evenings start to get lighter - some stay up all year.

We get six weeks out of out decorations and when we finally have to let them go it's a sad day Xmas Sad

DessieSaysDiy · 31/12/2017 23:02

It's hogmanay people!
Still the festive season Grin

Bluntness100 · 31/12/2017 23:03

Meh, i put mine up late, they are now down, I did feel sad it was over, but also a little glad,,,

ChristmasTablecloth · 31/12/2017 23:04

Mine will come down on 6th January, as always, and I will be sad to put them away. I love the Christmas tree and decorations.

Eminybob · 31/12/2017 23:08

Nope, just took them down about 10 mins ago advice the tree was looking rather sad and droopy.
So happy to have my living room back. Ever read the book a squash and a squeeze? That’s my living room. In reality it’s rather small, it looks humongous now!
DS is going to be very upset in the morning but I just couldn’t cope any longer.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 31/12/2017 23:15

If it was up to me I'd have taken ours down on Xmas day night but dh wanted to wait so I took it down on Thursday instead. It'd been up 2 weeks by that point and was doing my head in!

meredintofpandiculation · 31/12/2017 23:21

Another one who will leave them till at least the 6th, and feel sad to see them gone.

ferriswheel · 31/12/2017 23:23

Yeah. I love putting them up. They've been up since the first of December but enough is enough. Roll on the snowdrops and daffodils. I'm so ready for light nights and spring.

I can’t wait to take it all down. I hate the whole fucking materialistic, consumerism of the whole thing. And having to go along with it to keep other people happy.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 01/01/2018 00:16

I HATE taking ours down, the first thing I do in the morning is turn on the Christmas tree as can’t stand the sight of an unlit tree, they look so sad! DH insists we leave ours up until the 6th so looking forward to a few more fairy lit dats!
