To be annoyed by the bagpiper outside my home?

I totally appreciate what day it is here.

I live next to a pub. In Scotland.
They have a fully kilted piper outside who has been playing for the last hour. It’s nice enough.
I wouldn’t mind and would understand if I lived in town, but we actually live in a residential area with many children and babies.

AIBU to be annoyed if this continues beyond 9pm and all evening? There’s no way i’ll get my kids to sleep like this!

Ring the pub and ask them what time he is due to finish and could he please move to the other side of the pub?(cue post from neighbour on other side of the pub😊)

apostropheuse · 31/12/2017 20:22

Tell him the steak pie's ready and hide the feckers!

BackforGood · 31/12/2017 20:28

YANBU at all for being distressed, however, I think the argument about expecting a bit of piece and quiet so children can sleep doesn't really work if you buy / rent a house next to a pub - it kind of comes with the territory Grin.
I do feel your pain though.

^ PMSL here Grin

@backforgood its been over 10 years I’ve lived here. I’ll totally tolerate the punter noise, it’s totally fair.

Piper has had quite a break so far so fingers crossed. If he wants to break out into song at midnight he can bash on but if resumes to be an all night thing i’ll be pretty upset.

Love listening to bagpipes. Must be in my blood from 5 generations ago. Grin

I think though the love is diminished by the 6th gen as my children will never watch the military tattoos on TV with me.

Fekko · 01/01/2018 00:55

Buy him/her a whisky. That usually works (temporarily).

ADishBestEatenCold · 01/01/2018 01:21

"I live next to a pub."

I cannot understand why anyone would buy (or rent) a house next to a pub.

Did you? Or did the pub come later?

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 01/01/2018 01:23

YABU.

Bagpipes are EVERYTHING.

Luckymummy22 · 01/01/2018 01:28

YABU it’s Ne’er Day. And previously Hogmanay. And the night Scotland do best...

TheHungryDonkey · 01/01/2018 02:37

I live next to a pub because it’s housing association. Homeless people don’t get to choose where they’re put. I’m grateful for the roof. Less gracious about the karaoke til 3am and the group punch up going on outside.

TeeniefaeTroon · 01/01/2018 03:00

It was Hogmanay, in Scotland, you live next to a pub and you're moaning about bagpipes! Maybe you should move 🙄😂

Margaritaanyone89 · 01/01/2018 03:01

YABU You chose to live next to a pub and it's NY. Should the whole world stop on NY's after 9pm because some people have babies?

RestingGrinchFace · 01/01/2018 03:03

YABU-noise disturbance is to be expect living next to a pub. If you weren't able to put up with it you should have bought a different house.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/01/2018 03:04

South East here so no chance of hearing any

A decade ago there was a really fit piper in Croydon. He still there?

psychomath · 01/01/2018 03:15

I thought this was going to be about the Orange Lodge! YABU. just be glad they don't have a whole marching band in tow Wink

EllenRipley · 01/01/2018 03:20

You're not a party pooper. I'm Scottish. I am opposed to bagpipes and I probably would have shot him by now.

herecomesthsun · 01/01/2018 03:27

Grin Happy New Year Wine, I hope you eventually got some sleep!

pallisers · 01/01/2018 03:40

You know what Brendan Behan said about the bagpipes ...

"the only good thing about the bagpipes is they don't smell too"

TheQueenOfWands · 01/01/2018 04:14

I've never heard bagpipes in real life.

That just rocketed to the top of my bucket list..!
