To be upset that Hootenanny isn't actually live?

All these years I've been thinking what a great guy Jools Holland is, to give up all his NYE's to do the show.

And then a friend who is a producer at the BBC today told me to look out for him in the audience, as he went to watch the filming earlier in the year.

I'm so upset!

It used to be live I think. But then there was the year Jools got a bit too much in to the new year spirit(s). So it was recorded from then onwards.

Kind of like the Queen's speech being recorded because she wanted to 'enjoy' her Christmas Day Wink

Scrowy · 31/12/2017 19:45

Did none of you ever watch friends!? The One with The Routine?!

Of course it's pre recorded

deadringer · 31/12/2017 19:49

It's always been fairly shit, once you know it's not live it's really shit. Last year it reached new levels of awfulness but for some reason my dh won't miss it.

paperandpaint · 31/12/2017 19:54

I once got talking to a very famous person who said that yes it is filmed very far in advance. He said that there was nothing more depressing than sitting at home alone on NYE watching yourself on tv having an ‘amazing’ time while in reality you are bored and on your own!

rslsys · 31/12/2017 19:54

You'd think, that as its pre-recorded, they would actually sort the sound quality out so you could hear the bands properly mixed.
Instead we will get a muffled wall of sound, unless this will be the first year since its inception where you can actually listen to it!

Rant off

Teuchterlass · 31/12/2017 19:56

I no longer get upset about things like this not being "live" but I get overcome with irritation at the "Christmas Specials", complete with fake snow, filmed when all the leaves are still on the trees in summer. Particularly the "Have a Happy Christmas" messages to camera and Christmas jumpers being worn.

SameWitches · 31/12/2017 20:00

I was devastated when it dawned on me one Christmas day that Top of the Pops was pre recorded. I used to feel sorry for all the singers there whilst I had been opening presents and was about to sit down for dinner! I hoped they'd all go home to their families and have their dinner later.

ChinkChink · 31/12/2017 20:04

I've not been able to enjoy NYE Hootenanny since this was confirmed some years ago.

Likewise, finding out Have I Got News for You and Mock the Week are largely scripted spoiled those programmes, and I've watched neither since. The enjoyment [for me] was in admiration of the lightning quick wit of the panelists. Fake.

Antigonads · 31/12/2017 20:08

Aw. You are all so cutely naive.

ThePinkOcelot · 31/12/2017 20:20

I thought it was last live. What a con!

EvelynDoll · 31/12/2017 20:22

I think once you find out it's recorded, it seems really depressing to watch
I totally agree!

Of course Ed Sheeran doesn’t want to spend New Years being honky-tonked at by a neckless pianist.

Hate the show and he annoys me but yep, I thought it was live too.

dontbesillyhenry · 31/12/2017 20:31

I'd like to squish Jools Holland like a bug. Not in a sexual way either

FailingMotherhood · 31/12/2017 20:32

My husband only found out two years back, he now refers to Jools as "The Prince of Lies".

Crunchymum · 31/12/2017 20:33

Refuse to watch it since I found out Grin

ForalltheSaints · 31/12/2017 20:33

I knew years ago, when one of my relatives was on the show!

Not impressed with the line up this year.

Scabbersley · 31/12/2017 20:34

Of course Ed Sheeran doesn’t want to spend New Years being honky-tonked at by a neckless pianist. Grin this has actually made me proper laugh Grin.

I had a funny conversation with a friend a few weeks ago (for her). I've known for ages it wasn't live. I didn't realise she didn't Grin. She was very upset that I could suggest such a thing and remained unconvinced Grin.

MrsExpo · 31/12/2017 20:43

Santa Claus isn’t real either ...... Grin

Fevertree · 31/12/2017 20:53

froginapond · 31/12/2017 20:54
