To ask neighbours to take wind chimes down

They're wooden and so bloody annoying

Would it be bad form to ask?

Excellent idea, as is the parcel tape .

RidingWindhorses · 31/12/2017 16:16

Or ask them to move them to the other side of the house.

Whinesalot · 31/12/2017 16:20

I was girding my loins to ask my neighbours to remove theirs, but after a few weeks they suddenly disappeared. Either they annoyed themselves just as much as they did us, or it was some stealthy work by other neighbours. Either way - result!

SenecaFalls · 31/12/2017 16:25

I hate them. YANBU.

EmNetta · 31/12/2017 16:28

I never liked wind chimes, and dinged one as I passed, in a charity shop. To my amazement, there was an absolutely beautiful sound, very delicate notes and so close together, like a ripple of water - am sure a musician could explain the sound. Well, I just had to have them, despite being Made in China and needing repair of the fancy red strings, but have been unable to find a suitable tree to hang them on for the winter. They just might stay in the hall, then there's no danger of offending the neighbours, while I enjoy the addition to my (rather casual) feng shui.

annandale · 31/12/2017 16:30

A friend with ME who couldn't sleep through the windchimes of her neighbours had 3 years of them refusing to take them down - I know she was polite though she is also persistent. They finally took them down when she moved. Arrogant fuckers.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/12/2017 16:30

Unfortunately our neighbours set got accidentally broken one windy night....shame :(

YANBU OP!

EvilDoctorHogmanayDuck · 31/12/2017 16:31

YABU. Are you our neighbours? Xmas Blush

Violletta · 31/12/2017 16:33

Or put them in a padded envelope and post them through the door in the dead of night. They'll get the message

over several nights....

Nanny0gg · 31/12/2017 16:33

Wind chimes are in the same category as 'mood music' as far as I'm concerned..

Bloody awful irritating racket.

ShoesHaveSouls · 31/12/2017 16:34

If you're my neighbour, just ask, and I'll take them down Smile I like my wind chimes though.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/12/2017 16:34

while your'e at it OP can you have a word with the neighbours down the bottom of our garden fuckin annoying tinkly chimes

Maelstrop · 31/12/2017 16:34

Hate them and it’s as bad as inflicting crappy music on neighbours. Very antisocial imo. YANBU. Chop them down if you can reach them.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 31/12/2017 16:47

Definitely ask.

My neighbours leave their pegs on their rotary, it’s generally quite irritating, but in some winds it’s like wind chimes on bloody speed. If it was simply decorative and easy to take down I’d ask, however, she does a LOT of washing & I know she finds it easier & quicker to leave them on the rotary (she’s lovely, so I’ve overlooked this crime again humanity as far as the uncoothness goes). One of these days I’m going to crack and buy her a peg basket and ask her nicely to use it.

Or kidnap the pegs everytime they’re left on the rotary and post them through her door, one everynight at midnight...

Zatsuma · 31/12/2017 16:48

On a completely unrelated note, I might order a set of the noisiest ones I can find and put them up for a few days or more every time my neighbours have a loud garden party Grin

MrsPringles · 31/12/2017 16:50

YANBU because I fucking hate wind chimes. Unless you live miles from anyone else I think it’s really dickish to hang them outside your house

froginapond · 31/12/2017 16:54

In summer when there is a light summer breeze, they sound quite sweet when they are just riplling softly and slightly......, but when it's windy, they are MAJORLY annoying. Angry

I constantly hear my neighbours chimes in their back garden when the wind really picks up. How the fuck they don't notice it just eludes me! Confused

If there was a petition to ban them outside the house, I would sign it.

EggysMom · 31/12/2017 17:05

I'll expect somebody to knock on the door shortly then.

ZipItZebedee · 31/12/2017 17:16

No, just no. 😮😳To my ears they sound just as irritating in a light Sumer breeze than in strong winds. Noises like birds tweeting or leaves rustling are lovely and not irritating but the noise from wind chimes is really unpleasant.

oblada · 31/12/2017 17:22

I love my wind chimes!! Please don't be my neighbour :)

Does this thread not make you think about only having them out for a bit at a time oblada?

SweetLathyrus · 31/12/2017 17:29

Neighbours in my previous house had 32 of the bastard things (I may have missed some or got bored counting. Semi-detached bungalows with small gardens, so bedrooms at ground level and no bloody escape.

Ask them to take them in for the winter at least. YANBU.

fluffiphlox · 31/12/2017 17:29

Long handled loppers.

Billben · 31/12/2017 17:30

Cannot stand the horrible things.
