Sick to death of being let down by the postal service. YES it’s a busy time of year YES they’re “understaffed” YES I bloody understand human error. But for gods sake sort your shit out, posted out Friday morning and paid £13 for next day Saturday GUARANTEED delivery, parcel did not arrive and tracking tells me it’ll be delivered on Tuesday OR saturday coming! FFS. And I’ll have to refund my customer cost of her order as compensation Angry

Rant over.

Also I hope the postmen who can’t be bothered to knock for signed parcels and just shove a red note through the door get hit by a bus. IVE WATCHED YOU DO IT FROM THE WINDOW.

Did you ask the RM why the parcel wasn't delivered? What did they say?

cloudyweewee · 31/12/2017 14:51

Surely you could claim the money back if the post didn't arrive as guaranteed.

HariboForBreakfast · 31/12/2017 14:52

Special delivery has always missed it's guaranteed delivery date for me so I just don't offer it any more.

ScreamingValenta · 31/12/2017 14:53

If I were your customer, I'd cut you some slack over Christmas. I might ask for any special postage cost I'd paid for to be refunded (with the expectation you could claim that back yourself) but I wouldn't hold a seller responsible for RM's delays.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 31/12/2017 14:56

I get a lot of post at work. I have never once been asked to sign for signed-for deliveries of any sort. It is a total waste of money paying for special deliveries.

hevonbu · 31/12/2017 15:00

At least you can theoretically buy "next day Saturday GUARANTEED delivery", where I am the "Royal Mail"-equivalent discontinued that service back in the 1980's if I recall correctly. Xmas Sad

specialsubject · 31/12/2017 15:01

I sent a non-urgent parcel second class on Wednesday afternoon this week. It arrived the next morning.

Seems that it isn't worth using anything else!

MrsA2015 · 31/12/2017 15:02

I gave it till today at least, just so annoyed because it’s hand made/decorated chocolates that took me a lot of time and effort for the customer to not receive them in time for her party. I’ll be complaining about loss of earning and asking for refund on all of it!

Was this the special delivery where you pay extra for Saturday delivery? If so did you also buy the enhanced cover? If so you can claim your full loses.

MrsA2015 · 31/12/2017 15:05

Yes £13 + £3 for Saturday. So £16 not even £13 piss take! Now I’m even more annoyed

This happened to me with a timse-sensitive work parcel. I took it to the top of RM and then all the way to the ombudsman and even they weren't interested. They're cunts.

ForalltheSaints · 31/12/2017 15:16

Don't forget this next time a politician who supported part-privatisation of the Royal Mail comes seeking your vote.

TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius · 31/12/2017 15:18

From my bathroom window I watched the postman shove a load of mail in my hedge. I went down and pulled it out. It was the mail for the last six houses on his round that he couldn't be arsed to deliver to basically. I complained right to the top but I don't think he even got a talking to. They are only as good as the individual. I frequently get signed for stuff that has been signed for by the postie presumably? Terrible service when you think of the cost of it.

safariboot · 31/12/2017 15:22

It sucks that Royal Mail have let you down this time, but generally they're a lot more reliable than some of the other couriers.

You get what you pay for and you need to read the terms. Like a PP said, "guaranteed" really just means it's on time or your money back, and you need to pay extra if you want that money back to include consequential losses.

FineSally · 31/12/2017 15:31

I have had charges refunded for late delivery a couple of times (though not recently). They are in breach of contract if you pay for a service they don't/can't provide, for whatever reason.
Having said that, if it's something that needs tracking/special handling, perhaps it was delayed because there aren't enough staff on at the moment?

I frequently get second class mail the day after it is posted - and I got a package yesterday that had been posted on Thursday, normal second class, that was too big to put through the letterbox. It's news to me that they even take second class stuff out on their rounds on Saturdays - they never used to.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 31/12/2017 15:43

Unfortunately I think you can only claim for your costs (ingredients) and postage, not what the customer has actually paid you, so it will be a lot less as doesn't include your time or things like electricity etc

MrsA2015 · 31/12/2017 16:07

Winds me up to no end when established companies still fail their customers on such a large scale, I depend a lot on postage due to my business and it really puts me off taking orders because things keeps getting damaged even when wrapped in “fragile” tape.

I’ll be writing up an email tomorrow and making phone calls on Tuesday. It’s Really put a dampner on my day!
