We moved house two years ago and are still receiving post for the previous owners, not just the odd letter or Christmas card but screwfix catalogues, notices from companies house (wtf - why would you not change your address with them), and the NHS. I'd make the effort to locate them on Facebook but they were awful vendors to us and I'd rather not have any direct contact with them. They left the place filthy, left furniture there which we had to dispose of and the whole downstairs was covered in mouse droppings (vom) which hadn't been apparent when we viewed the property. We had to get the place deep cleaned and treated for rodents the day after we moved in. With a 2-year old and a 2-week old (not sure how they put up with all this with their 4-year old - double vom). As a result we don't exactly have amicable feelings towards them.

I've dutifully "returned to sender" with most of their post but we received a couple of parcels just before christmas with no return address on it. (As sn aside, who the hell sends a parcel with no return address on these days?!) What do I do with these parcels? I think they may still live locally as I used to see the wife around a couple of times when we first moved in but havent seen her in over a year.

OP posts:

We have the same problem. I return to sender or bin it if it doesn't look important. I did write to the Dvla as we kept getting parking fines through the door addressed to the previous owners.

headintheproverbial · 31/12/2017 14:26

Is the point not that OP already has been 'returning to sender' or writing 'not known at this address' for 2 years???

I think enough is enough and would stop bothering (although in some cases returning might be the only way to stop repeats!!).

specialsubject · 31/12/2017 14:47

smileandnod your agent wants a good slap, it is not 'their home' it is yours.

It is their property, but guessing not for much longer as that reeks of 'didn't get consent to let' and now mortgage foreclosure - the post office redirect has run out. Just as well you are leaving.

SmileAndNod · 31/12/2017 14:57

The more we think about things @specialsubject the more it all sounds incredibly fishy. You're right in that we'll be better off out if it.

We have a long list of stuff complaints against the LA. Interestingly so do next door ( different owner but managed by the same agency) Smile

SoGoodToBeBackHomeAgain · 31/12/2017 15:06

We forwarded any post we received for the first few months until we had central heating installed. The new warmth In the house roused the fleas that had obviously been lying dormant. It was a petty revenge but I binned any post that came for them after that.

RhiannonOHara · 31/12/2017 15:09

Contact their solicitors.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 31/12/2017 15:11

yep... after 4 years we are still getting letters for the bitch vendor.

We open, read and then bin.

Id do the same with the parcels

howdidthathappen76 · 31/12/2017 17:06

Still getting post for previous owner .... 22 years later. I might add that he died prior to us moving in.

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 31/12/2017 17:08

Return to sender! I got so sick of the previous home owners constant post/ catalogues etc I bought a “return to sender” stamp from amazon and just stamp it and send it back. Still get their post three years later. Pisses me off no end.

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 31/12/2017 17:10

I did forward it in until we uncovered the serious damp problem and then I decided to stop.

jusdepamplemousse · 31/12/2017 17:22

So annoying, we still get this three years later. However - don’t open their post, why on earth?! And definitely do NOT hassle their solicitor...they just represented them, it’s not their job to sort post, it’s not their fault! (I’m a solicitor Grin). Just chuck it or fire it back in the postbox marked not at this address. I just chuck what we get now, fed up providing an admin service.

AnneElliott · 31/12/2017 17:28

We get the same issue, and we've been here 5 years! We got a cheque made out to cash as a wedding present! Luckily the lady had enclosed her address so I sent it back. Can't believe you know someone well enough to invite to your wedding, but haven't bothered to tell them you've moved!

Firesuit · 31/12/2017 17:32

I still regularly get American Express statements (sent from the USA) for the previous owner of my house. I told them he's no longer here, 20 years ago, when I moved in. (Why would they keep a dormant account open for 20 years? And does this mean his card issued more than 20 years ago is considered still active, as they've never sent a replacement card?)

HardAsSnails · 31/12/2017 17:32

You do the same with the parcels you should do with letters, don't open them, write 'not at this address/return to sender' and post them in the postbox/hand in to the post office.

Bluelonerose · 31/12/2017 17:38

7 years and STILL get the odd few threatening letters for them.

After 6 months of no longer at this address return to sender I emailed the companies with a copy of my tennnecy thinking that should be the end of it.

I got a letter back saying "she does live there we've checked" Shock

I replied she's either living in a part of my house I've NEVER been in or she is officially hide and seek world champion and any further letters would be sent to my landlord.

I still send them to landlord now.

whirlygirly · 31/12/2017 17:54

We had the bailiffs turn up at a previous house. Turned out the extension wasn't paid for. Hmm I managed to track the previous owners down in desperation and we got no more hassle. Not nice though. I did wonder why they hadn't left a forwarding address.

Angrybird345 · 31/12/2017 20:24

Open the parcels! What’s inside?!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 31/12/2017 21:28

The extension wasn’t paid for? Didn’t your solicitor notice when he carried out checks for you in the house purchase? Xmas Shock

Sparklesdontshine · 31/12/2017 21:34

We bin them

TitsNnails · 31/12/2017 21:36

We had awful vendors. I handed all their mail to their solicitor. My understanding was they charged them for passing it on. No idea if they did but it made me feel better. Also sent the bailiffs to them too.

Inkstainedmags · 31/12/2017 21:38

12 years in this house and we still get post from banks, NHS etc for previous owners. I spent ages returning to sender and now I bin everything.

llangennith · 31/12/2017 21:45

I printed off a lot of small labels saying “Addressee unknown at this address” and stuck them on all unwanted mail.

SheepyFun · 31/12/2017 21:54

We ignored post for the previous occupants (who, for added joy, had been tenants) until the bailiffs came round. They were surprisingly pleasant, but we returned post after that - I printed out a few sheets of labels (there was a lot of post), and we don't get anywhere near as much now. Unless you enjoy dealing with bailiffs, it's probably worth returning things. Including parcels (which should have been sent to a different client in the first place, it transpired).

goose1964 · 31/12/2017 22:12

We had the bailiffs come round shortly after we moved in to our previous house. I just showed him some paperwork relating to the house purchase which he noted on his stuff and that was the last we heard

Skowvegas · 31/12/2017 22:27

10 years here and I still get loads of post for the previous occupants. I bin it all.

One of them had two different names...
