To be pissed of at 'D' SIL visiting with a sickness bug

Not so 'D'SIL visited us on Xmas day despite having a sickness bug. I'm now sat in A&E with sicky 11 yo DD. She's been ill all week and was worse tonight and had a panic attack so I took her to A&E! AIBU for being annoyed at her for coming over when I specifically told her to only come over if she was feeling better? Please be kind, I'm knackered

Op has NOT done the same thing as SiL. SiL visited presumably because she did not want to miss an Xmas gathering. The op took her daughter to a and e because she needed medical attention. Yes, most people do not need medical attention with vomiting. They are lucky. Some people are not so lucky.

Wow, your SIL is a delight bringing her infectious self into your house when your child has asthma - how very caring of her.

If you tell her not to come again and she rocks up, I think you would be quite reasonable not to open the door.

Hope all is well with DR and you all manage to get some rest soon Flowers

Elaine. Don’t let the shitty posts upset you. There are posters on here who think you shouldn’t use A&E unless both legs are hanging by a thread, and only then if you can’t hail a passing moped.🙄

You really can’t be too careful with children & asthma. It’s far more serious (& scary) than most people realise.

As for your SIL I’d be livid. The PA texts would have started as soon as DD started being sick, they’d have ramped up a lot by now. She’s selfish & stupid & I wouldn’t hesitate to tell her exactly that.

I hope DD is fully recovered soon —and that no one else gets it—

Thanks everyone we're home and DD in bed, Dr said may be appendix so I've to keep an eye on her and that I did the right thing under the circumstances so I feel better and glad she's sleeping. Hopefully she will be feeling better in the morning. I'm not stupid and would generally not go to A&E with a sickness bug but I was really worried about DD

We have not gone to my cousins because her dds inlaws decided to give them d&v on Christmas Day. Angry.

I have ME/CFS and a sick bug could make me very seriously ill and needing hospitalisation.

My dd has reflex anoxic seizures, which are triggered by vomiting bugs. This is where her heart stops beating. She does a dead fall, which is completely different to a faint and she has already been ambulanced to hospital after injuring from a fall during a seizure. Her heart automatically restarts but she is very ill for 48 hours from the affects of effectively temporarily dying.

Were we both ill, I wouldn’t be able to look after her.

Your dd has an underlying and potentially life threading medical condition. You should be treating any infectious illness as potentially very serious. Some strains of d&v bugs have been tested on surfaces and can be infectious for up to 7 days, the minimum is 3 days. This whole situation could have been avoided had you told your sil and anyone, who had come into contact with her to stay away for the 7 days after all symptoms had cleared.

Glad you're home.

ZoopDragon · 31/12/2017 09:15

I hope she's better soon. Why did they send her home if they suspect acute appendicitis??

Yes your SIL was U.

yippyyappy · 31/12/2017 10:46

Most of ds's mates for sent to A&E with a d&v big due to dehydration. They do sometimes ask you to come in.

Willow2017 · 31/12/2017 11:50

Mummy
Not everyone knows germs can ( not always will) hang around for 7 days nor would they tell people not to visit for 7 days after they are better.
Hell even school/ work guidelines are only 48hrs.

Dont blame op for her sils selfish behaviour.

holdthepressitsmummers · 31/12/2017 12:00

Noro can hang around for two weeks I think. We came down with it this week and the only place we've been recently was friends who had it a couple of weeks prior.

(Just as an aside, I was a bit tipsy so used their hand towel.)
