.... to rip my head off

BackHome · 30/12/2017 18:16

2 days now of a bloody fucker of a migraine and I want to rip my head off. Pain easing a bit now, hence I can write this, and it eased up a bit yesterday for an hour or two, but only because of meptid + naproxen + sumatriptan, no even in the duller moments the pain is still there and I am or want to vomit. And I already take amytriptaline as a prophylaxis (so that works well then)

Aaaaaaaaaggggggghhhh.

I HATE migraines

What have I done to deserve these bloody migraine nightmares!!??? apart from too much alcohol and chocolate etc over Christmas!

Xmas Angry

YANBU. Maybe if you did you'd find the bastard Migraine Goblin and have enough life left in you to whack him with a hammer Grin

Seriously, hope it stops soon x

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 30/12/2017 18:23

Sounds grim. Is there anything that helps when you get one. I find lying very still in the dark sometimes does the trick —after about 7 hours—
I know the advice is often to try and get on with your life but it’s bloody difficult if you are nauseous, feel like someone is smacking the back of your head with a hammer and you can’t see properly.
Hope it goes soon.

Sparklesocks · 30/12/2017 18:37

Oh no OP! Migraines are the worst, it’s like when someone says they’re not sure if they’ve had a migraine before - oh, you’d know!! They are debilitating - Flowers feel better

Tippytappytoes · 30/12/2017 18:37

You have my sympathy! I had a bad sides of the head one in the early hours of Christmas Day, at one point, after none of the medication I took seemed to do anything for hours, I actually wanted to die. There has been rumbling headaches since and an aura migraine, I suspect my new medication for a different illness is triggering them 😞

I found sleeping propped upright on the sofa helps a little.

CheekyFuckersAreEntertaining · 30/12/2017 18:54

Fuck it, here's an un-mumsnetty HUG!

Migraines are the devil. I suffered for years and thankfully pregnancy and childbirth pretty much cured them. They are now very, very rare. If I had known that then I might have had kids earlier. At like 13!!!

I hope it goes away soon. Get your OH to give you a nice deep neck massage, and get cold water or an ice pack on your face/head.

I hope it goes away soon.

StylishDuck · 30/12/2017 19:06

I read somewhere that sitting with your feet in warm water and putting a cold towel on the back of your neck/forehead can help. It draws the blood away from your head or something. I hope you get some relief soon Thanks

LouiseH2017 · 30/12/2017 19:14

@cheekyfuckersareentertaining what age did you have your DC?

bonzo77 · 30/12/2017 19:20

Mine got hugely better after my first child was born. After my third I started getting them again, but nowhere near as crippling. I found getting my eyes tested and wearing the glasses all the time really helped. Also, at the very first sign of one (I get a particular feeling in my mouth) drinking gallons of water really can help avert the worst of it. By gallons I mean probably about 600ml an hour from the time it starts till I can get to bed.

Runlovingmummy81 · 30/12/2017 19:22

Can you take the migralieve pink tablets. They are the one things that work for me. My sister in law used to get them every 2 weeks and was sick every time. She got a daith piercing and they stopped! Look it up, might be worth a look. X

6demandingchildren · 30/12/2017 19:24

Look at cluster headaches as that is what I get, they are also know as suicide headaches as they are apparently the worst pain a human can bear.
I have oxygen to help with mine and it's better than any tablet or injection.

Skowvegas · 30/12/2017 19:41

I've been there and also considered ripping my head off.

See your doc again and ask about other prophylaxis meds. I'm finding BP meds are helping. There are other options too.

Also there are other triptans to try. Rizatriptan works much better with fewer side effects than sumetriptan, for me. It dissolves on the tongue so is good if migraines make your nauseous.

Migraines are awful :-(

Namechangetempissue · 30/12/2017 19:49

I totally understand you OP. I have times where I could quite happily headbutt the wall until I knock myself out to get some break from the agony that is migraines. I get physically sick too, and it is unbearable laying in the dark with my head pounding while my stomach churns. I've thought I have been dying before the pain is so incredible. Migraleave occasionally will help IF I catch the headache early enough, but if it is set in, nothing touches it. I just have to hope I fall asleep/unconscious so I can't feel it anymore Flowers

I think there’s an injection that’s coming out next year that acts as a preventative.

MumW · 30/12/2017 20:12

You have my sympathy. Today is first migraine free day since Xmas eve. It's been a stressful few weeks months in the lead up to Xmas and I wasn't doing the cooking this year so I think it was a case of completely relaxing too quickly.

I got through with naproxen, codiene, rizatriptan and the odd asprin. (Have also been sleeping for around 10 hours since which is unheard of!)

Flowers Hope you feel better tomorrow.

BackHome · 30/12/2017 20:44

Hey mumw! You could b me! Flowers glad u on the mend. Is rizatriptan quicker acting than sumatriptan?

Thanks all for your sympathy and advice! I've not heard of the daith piercing thing - but I'll look more into it now. Anything is definitely worth a shot. Thanks for that. And thanks re: injection info - I'm going to look into that too and maybe revisit the doc.

[insert smiley face with ice pack on its head, here]

Thanks all Smile

I've got a daith piercing. Not sure if it does work or not but it's meant to. I got it as I thought it was pretty. Not had a migraine for years so it's not really been tested.
The place it's pierced is a pressure point so maybe worth massaging/ gently squeezing that part of your ear?

CheekyFuckersAreEntertaining · 30/12/2017 20:50

@LouiseH2017 Had my first child at 27. Had migraines regularly until then. After that they dwindled to a few times a year.

BackHome · 30/12/2017 20:54

Cheekyfuckersareentertaining .... I'd love to try for another baby as a cure! (Or just try for another baby!!!!) but DH says no! Sad Wink

Urgh i feel your pain. Sumatripian works most times for me but god am i queasy for hours afterwards, and get very sensitive mouth so cant eat or drink anything hot. I cant wait for this new medication next year. I find the best thing for me is a fan blowing in my face to kind of numb me while being under the duvet.

I had rizatripitan that melt on your tongue but was violently sick one time and the thought of taking one now makes me want to throw up. Hopefully you are starting to come out of the attack now.

FaithEverPresent · 30/12/2017 21:01

I was suffering a lot in the summer. I’ve been ill with other stuff and I was getting loads of migraines. I got my daith pierced in September after reading about it and I really do believe it’s helped. I went from having a migraine at least once a week that was lasting at least 48 (sometimes weekly) to only having had two since. Someone recommended this YouTube video. No idea how but it definitely eases the intensity.
