to plan a holiday around late pregnancy/birth?

Not yet past the 12 week mark so obviously only cautiously planning. But with budgeting in mind, if we are going to go away then we need time to book/save up.

What in your opinion would be better? Going abroad at 34 weeks pregnant or 6 weeks postpartum?

Baby #3 so would really like to still take our older children away as it is always such a lovely time for us and extended family.

Neither. You'll either feel like a whale and be lucky if they let you fly without a drs note, or be sat frantically waiting for baby's first passport to arrive and still dealing with PP bleeding/stitches or a csection scar.

Save it towards next year. Don't be an idiot.

At 34 weeks, you will need a fit to fly certificate- so will need a low risk pregnancy.
6 weeks post due date? You might only gave a 4 week old baby. Will you have a passport??

Can you start saving, and see how things are to book a last minuite break at the time?

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I don’t like saying it, but I really feel I must sometimes - twelve weeks means absolutely nothing in terms of risk. So get good insurance.

I’d rather travel postpartum, personally. But I think I’d be staying in this country. I took the DC away with the youngest five weeks or so. But no passport to deal with so no stress.

Neither! But if you really had to then I’d go for after baby is born. But bear in mind baby could be only 4 weeks if it comes late. Definitely would not be going abroad for a holiday at 34 weeks.

We have a good amount put away already. You are right though, we'd either need good insurance or to book last minute when I feel ready.

As we usually go away with family though, obviously that makes last minute booking a little tricker.

As I said this is baby #3 so well aware of what late pregnancy/early baby days have been like so far (though every pregnancy is different of course) and have taken a young baby away in the past. Would definitely be no earlier than 6 weeks PP whenever baby arrives.

I'm just looking to weigh up which option is generally more preferable. Though I'm leaning to after birth tbh.

Maybe the solution is to go earlier? Perhaps Easter time?

If so, please feel free to recommend nice holidays in Europe Smile

I read an article the other day about a lady going into premature labour on holiday. She was around 28 weeks, I believe.
She had insurance but to start with they refused to pay and the hospital basically kept her baby for ransom, the hospital stay for the baby was about £1200 a day on top of the birth.
Obviously I hope to god nothing bad would happen, but it sometimes does, and I don't think I'd go on holiday while I was so pregnant.
I also had a c section and felt pretty good 4 to 6 weeks postpartum, but probably not good enough to want to sit on a plane for hours.

Why has it got to be 34 weeks or 6 weeks post partum? Why not just keep saving and go away when new baby is 12 weeks or something. Can't imagine anything more boring/effort taking away a 6 week old baby especially if you're EBF. All they do is sleep and cry basically at least a bit later they'll be sleeping through hopefully etc or starting to wean etc etc and might be a bit fun in a swimming pool. Just my personal preferences.
