To think my sis is a CF

My sister came round the day after boxing day to my parents where I was still staying. She came round to ask for receipts to the bag my DM brought her to get a refund. The mugs that my DM brought her that I thought were lovely but apparently they are too large and that's too much tea for her. She returned the window cleaner thing my mum got her for a floor steamer. She then sat on the sofa and said she was thinking of returning her leather jacket her DP had brought her for the money. She said this in front of her DP. Aibu to think she's being a CF

Yanbu

She said she needs the money as she doesnt have a job atm but she would waste that money on rubbish anyway. Just think she's been so ungrateful

Other than wanting to return gifts, what has she actuallydone?

redexpat · 30/12/2017 08:29

She could be a CF or you could all be crap at buying presents.

Wishfulmakeupping · 30/12/2017 08:30

Another perspective my dm and ds brought me a lot of boots sets for Xmas very expensive soaps etc but I've got tons left over from last year won't use them- I'm out of work and could think a million things I need before those I was going to try returning them on the sky but Dh doesn't think I'd be able to without a receipt but seems a shame I've got £70 worth of stuff I don't need that could swap for stuff I really do.

duskmum · 30/12/2017 10:02

Would you really suggest swapping an expensive 200 leather jacket for the money in front of your DP. She loves the jacket so it's not like she doesn't like it.

I always ask for vouchers I have too much stuff just do that in future then nobody is upset.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/12/2017 10:09

She is quite rude. I always include a gift receipt with clothes or jewellery in case the person doesn’t like it. That way they can exchange it for something they do want.

It’s a tough one if she has no job. I can understand her temptation to have the money instead.

VladmirsPoutine · 30/12/2017 10:10

I think MN have got too carried away with the term 'CF'.

Your sister sounds a bit of a pain but can't see how her actions are impacting you. You sound like you don't particularly like her anyway.

woodhill · 30/12/2017 10:15

Very rude tbh and mercenary

duskmum · 30/12/2017 12:35

Might come across that way but I am annoyed at her for other reasons but that's a totally different thread.

I probably wouldnt discuss it like that no. Maybe she comes from a family where thats normal. It absolutely is in dhs family, absolutely not in mine. Is she unemployed? Does she need money?

NapQueen · 30/12/2017 12:54

It's bought.

CurryWorst · 30/12/2017 13:04

Bought, not brought. Different word entirely.

Is it any of your business what she does with her presents?

category12 · 30/12/2017 13:08

Sounds like she's worried about money (or alternatively making a show about being worried about money). not your circus, not your monkeys.

duskmum · 30/12/2017 13:09

Sorry I forgot there's word police on here! My mistake!

If she didn’t want any presents but preferred the money, why didn’t she actually say? That way, she would have got token socks and some money

Yea maybe it has a bit. Just seeing my mum's face. She looked disappointed that my sis was taking the stuff back as understandably she's put effort into the presents. My mum's having a realpy hard time atm so feel it was a bit insensitive on my sis behalf.

Yes it should be bought but we all knew what the OP meant so was there really any need to post just to correct her?

duskmum · 30/12/2017 18:55

Exactly it's just nit picking!

OP posts:
Crispbutty · 30/12/2017 18:57

Maybe she's saying it in the hope you will offer her a loan

duskmum · 30/12/2017 19:02

Well last year her and her DP went away for Christmas. It was paid for by her DP. I then found out my DM gave her 500 towards her spending money. Even though she wouldn't have used it all. I'm quite sure she hasn't paid it back either. I only found that out a couple of months ago. So I wouldn't loan her any money because I don't think she would pay it back
