So what is the best exercise to be slim? Have read swimming isn’t the best if this is the aim.

Disagree that weight training is the only way to a toned body.

Run approx 45 miles per week and have very toned legs, bum and stomach. I don't do much else nor do I watch what I eat.

A run of 2 miles should be achievable in 20 mins ish. You start off by run walking at intervals or jogging very slowly. The hardest bit is getting changed into kit and trainers (High Impact sports bra a must) and getting out of the door.

Start with a out one mile slow jog turn round and back home or a loop. If you stop, walk then try to jog again but I find it easier to try to jog slowly but not walk if I'm fed up as a slow jog gets me home quicker. Smile as you go.

Sorry for taking over.

Thanks all.

I do not run. Not even for a bus or last orders.
I also do not lift weights because I have knee injuries.
But I find yoga rather good for strength and toning.

excellent advice Ta1k.

Body weight stuff is great. I hurt my back 6 months ago so no lifting heavy weights. I remained toned through loads of Pilates moves: planks/ tricep dips/ press ups etc. Plus using the resistance bands. In fact I prefer this way to exercise now. It's easier to lose form when lifting heavy weights and injure yourself (if you don't know what you're doing).

Yes, reformer pilates is amazing. Transforms your body. My favourite form of exercise!

I’ve been a regular gym goer for many years. I took up HIIT around a year ago and have noticed a huge difference in my fitness, and body shape. Only takes 30 mins out of your day. I mix this up with swimming, and play a team sport once a week too. Basically find something you enjoy and stick with it, it will take a while for you to notice a difference.
