AIBU - Horse riders pick up poo?

First time asking on here so here it goes!

I'm bloody fuming, we live in a fairly large town but are lucky enough to live by a lovely canal. First 1/4 mile or so is a concrete path wide enough for 2 people to walk side by side. I'm walking along this afternoon and in the distance there are some horses & a women with a buggy feeding ducks. One of the horses poo's and as normal keeps going leaving a steaming pile all over the path meaning that anyone with a pram, wheelchair etc cannot get past unless they lift over or roll straight through it. ( bushes one side & water the other side of path) this is a daily occurance and I'm totally fed up of dodging it. Surely when on a concrete pathway the riders could show some consideration to others?

The witch

I agree, this doesn’t look good. I was actually thinking / hoping that these nappies might be a good solution for the hopefully short time periods of riding in more urban areas. At least for some horses.

But this pic... the manure bag (and the rider)... That looks pretty bad, tbh.

Oh ffs get a life and lighten up

I can't be arsed reading the whole thread OP but know you'll be getting a trouncing from the horsey types!

In my view, horses are from a bygone age & have no requirement to be on a modern road, they should be driven from stable to field/bridleway by their owners & then ridden....

IiitsChriiistmas · 29/12/2017 22:08

But I still don't understand where we are to park for most local bridleways that are tracks off paths or roads?

Cakeorchocolate · 29/12/2017 22:13

*Scabbersley

Logistically not possible, not inconvenient*

Of course it's possible. Horse shuts, rider stops horse, dismounts, clears up mess, gets back on horse & continues on merry way.

Inconvenient, not impossible.

I cba to scroll back but I've had lots of very patronising comments and this is the latest. I'm not stupid

Not a patronising comment - a statement of fact. You responded to my post refuting an argument I had not made. If you don't want your mistakes to be highlighted, you should be more careful in your posts. Or not, but then I defend my right to point them out.

As for the rest of your comment, I despair.

Thehogfather · 29/12/2017 22:39

So let's just summarise shall we?

Times have changed so riders should cheerfully abandon historic rights for pedestrians.

All riders are rich Tory bastards

Most riders can run a lorry/ trailer, and should share for free with the few who can't.

Riders all have the time and inclination to travel just for a short after work hack.

Everywhere has magical abundant trailer parking and limitless off road riding.

All horses can wear nappies. As evidenced by an unpleasant google image.

If some riders are inconsiderate and use pedestrian only spaces then it's best to tar all riders with the same brush.

All riders can mount lightly from the ground.

Everyone rides quiet plods they can safely hop on and off at any time.

Members of the public would never make it dangerous for a rider to be hopping about on foot kicking poo

It's a cracking idea to ride with a trowel, definitely no safety issues.

If wheelchair users have genuine difficulties in a shared space, it's the riders problem to solve it.

There definitely aren't any ill informed stupid class preconceptions about riders, we are all landed gentry.

Horse poo is harmful to humans and the same as dog muck

Maelstrop · 29/12/2017 22:45

Has anyone mentioned that as well as all being Tory voting rich elitist wankers, all us horse owners must also be for fox hunting?

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 29/12/2017 22:47

The million dollar question, Maelstrop...

Angie169 · 29/12/2017 22:50

You can feel the difference in the horses movements / walk when they poo ( or Pee )

Wineasaurous · 29/12/2017 23:00

In my view, horses are from a bygone age & have no requirement to be on a modern road, they should be driven from stable to field/bridleway by their owners & then ridden....

Heck, why not just send them all to the glue factory? They're from a bygone age and have no requirements so let's be done with them all together!! Hmm

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 29/12/2017 23:00

mael nope, we haven’t talked about hunting (yet...)

As someone that isn’t (originally) from the U.K., I personally really do think that so much of this is connected to reverse snobbery. That’s the only possible explanation I came up with for the intensity of this debate and the issues many riders seem to have when using the roads.

I’m from a country with much less space than the U.K. and as far as I know we’ve managed to get along rather well. Many family members back home are really horsy and this honestly seemed like a complete non-issue to me. (Horses are seen as regular users of the roads, riding on the sidewalk is strictly forbidden and dung is just seen as a part of country live. Although some paths aren’t for horses, bikes and or off-leash dogs.)

Thehogfather · 29/12/2017 23:03

Don't know about traditional fox hunting, but I'm sure we all chase urban foxes and cats into people's gardens to shit in their pfbs sandpits, and boden clad bugaboo pushers down the pavements we all ride on.

Debdoo · 29/12/2017 23:07

😹

Flyingflipflop · 29/12/2017 23:09

What a waste. Sell them to Tesco for their lasagne.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 30/12/2017 00:16

Having read all of JaneyEJones comments the immediate thought is “you can’t educate pork”.

There are people on this thread who could argu Black is blue and I’m happy to retreat into my elitist, horsey, pleasant hell, thanking fuck I will never live in batshit suburbia.

IrkThePurist · 30/12/2017 00:39

What is it about people they want to move somewhere green and leafy, then complain about the country after the suburbs have sprawled into it?

Devilishpyjamas · 30/12/2017 09:05

And how often does that happen Janey? I think we have established most horse riders see no reason for horses to be on a pavement and taking a horse down a narrow path near lots of pedestrians (& presumably dogs) and motorised scooters sounds like sort of torture.

Bearsinmotion · 30/12/2017 09:30

It appears have happened to the OP. Which I seem to recall is the reason for thread, way back in the mists of time.
