AIBU - Horse riders pick up poo?

First time asking on here so here it goes!

I'm bloody fuming, we live in a fairly large town but are lucky enough to live by a lovely canal. First 1/4 mile or so is a concrete path wide enough for 2 people to walk side by side. I'm walking along this afternoon and in the distance there are some horses & a women with a buggy feeding ducks. One of the horses poo's and as normal keeps going leaving a steaming pile all over the path meaning that anyone with a pram, wheelchair etc cannot get past unless they lift over or roll straight through it. ( bushes one side & water the other side of path) this is a daily occurance and I'm totally fed up of dodging it. Surely when on a concrete pathway the riders could show some consideration to others?

Oh OP are you new to the country?? Grin

Greyhorses · 28/12/2017 13:54

I am definitely not posh. The opposite of posh infact.

I do have a horse which probably costs me less than most people spend on going out or shopping per month Grin

DeepanKrispanEven · 28/12/2017 13:57

*And it doesn’t alter the fact they were built for horses, which a poster was trying to dispute."

Irrelevant. They were built for horses pulling canal boats, not horses being ridden for leisure. If we had to use facilities solely for their original purpose, towpaths would have been grown over or collapsed into rivers and canals long ago. And they are maintained for the general population, not just horses.

kaz2810 · 28/12/2017 13:57

@unicornrainbowcolours - I live about 1/2 mile from town centre, I'm just lucky enough to have some beautiful open countryside about 5 mins walk away.

I would also just like to add that dog shit is actually compostable - if you arm yourself with a wormery and shove worms in it. I know cos i did this a few years ago, bought some tiger worms online, built a wormery and threw my two dogs' shite into it. The worms eat it and convert it into compost. Cat shit however is completely toxic and cannot be composted.

Anyway carry on. THIS IS ALL VERY ENTERTAINING.

Thehogfather · 28/12/2017 14:02

Not a faux pas in this instance battle.

Maybe we could have a national helpline
'Problems with poo? Talk to Frank'

Flyingflipflop · 28/12/2017 14:02

Who'd have thought? 20 pages of shit so far! Grin

YNK · 28/12/2017 14:03

This thread is hilarious!

I never realised horse shit was so utterly delightful - in fact I'm surprised people aren't advocating we all roll around in it since it's so lovely!

It's shit, fgs - it comes out of a horses arse!
Don't take your horse out where it will reduce access for others - surely that's just decent manners. I can't believe how entitled some people can be!

This 'I'm all right Jack' attitude is alive and well among horse owners, it seems..

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 28/12/2017 14:06

battlecunt wins the thread! Grin you are totally forgiven for laughing at your own joke battle, it was fucking brilliant!

And yes, scabbersly has been extremely disgusting on this thread. I’ve reported the disablist posts.

TheWitchAndTrevor · 28/12/2017 14:08

Oh pull y knickers out your arse

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 28/12/2017 14:19

We had riding stables at the top of our road. When the horses came down it was a fight with the neighbours who got there first with a shovel. Horse poo is amazing for roses Grin

GetOutOfMYGarden · 28/12/2017 14:20

If horse shit is just digested grass then have your kids happily jump in a pile of it. I used to happily jump into piles of grass after mowing, why not do the same with this completely sanitary digested grass!

Blackteadrinker77 · 28/12/2017 14:22

@battlecunt, have some consideration please.

I just had stomach surgery and that nearly split my stitches!

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/12/2017 14:24

😂😂😂😂 ok then op

BattleCunt · 28/12/2017 14:28

@Blackteadrinker77 SORRY

Grin
TheWitchAndTrevor · 28/12/2017 14:30

GetOutOfMYGarden

Go down to any riding school, and see how many kids are jumping in and on the muck heap. also it's been known for some kids to start snowball fights with.

And if you are really lucky you'll see a couple of them eating sandwiches with shit covered hands, oh how the other half live, aye? Grin

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 28/12/2017 14:34

I thinks dSIS and I were born in a manure pile. Honestly, we loved nothing more than playing in, racing each other up it, throwing each other down it from the top, throwing handfuls of dung at each other. Grin

GreyMorning · 28/12/2017 14:42

I specifically make my horse poo in places designed to inconvenience the poor, but you say this path leads to a Waitrose so seems odd that there would be non-horse riders in the vicinity.

In regards to there being a plethora of bridlepaths locally, do they all join up in nice circular routes or are they lots of random short bits that don't really go anywhere? Most people I know would prefer not to ride on roads or busy paths but you have to in order to get from one bridlepaths to another.

Thehogfather · 28/12/2017 14:42

Muck heaps are also fantastic for warmth on a cold day. Next time there's a thread about the best cosy toes (or whatever they're called now) or toddlers winter clothes I might pop on and suggest they stick their dc in a muck heap as I frequently did with dd. Warm and endless fun.

Scabbersley · 28/12/2017 14:46

Where I live roads have been built across bridleways so there are lots of annoying bits. One goes directly to the dual carriageway and continues on the other side, with no place to cross Hmm

DS has fallen in the muck heap many a time when he was little, I've spent the last 30 odd years dealing with horse shit, no ill effects yet...

AllIWantForXmasIsLouMumsnet · 28/12/2017 14:50

Afternoon all. Thanks for the reports about this thread.

We just wanted to remind you that we will remove any posts which we consider to be disablist. Please do take a look at our Talk Guidelines if you are at all unsure.

Thank you.

Scabbersley · 28/12/2017 14:52

My dds have been around horse muck all their lives and are rarely ill. I can't remember the last time I had a tummy upset, and I sometimes pick up poo apples with my bare hands

Smile
Scabbersley · 28/12/2017 14:52

Oh fgs.

Confusedbeetle · 28/12/2017 14:53

It is worth checking whether the canal path is designated a footpath, in which case horses shouldnt be on it . I would be surprised if it was a bridlepath (if it was then you take a risk walking on it) It would be impractical and dangerous for riders to get off to move it. Personally i would never ride my horse on a canal path for many reasons, danger being the first
