AIBU - Horse riders pick up poo?

First time asking on here so here it goes!

I'm bloody fuming, we live in a fairly large town but are lucky enough to live by a lovely canal. First 1/4 mile or so is a concrete path wide enough for 2 people to walk side by side. I'm walking along this afternoon and in the distance there are some horses & a women with a buggy feeding ducks. One of the horses poo's and as normal keeps going leaving a steaming pile all over the path meaning that anyone with a pram, wheelchair etc cannot get past unless they lift over or roll straight through it. ( bushes one side & water the other side of path) this is a daily occurance and I'm totally fed up of dodging it. Surely when on a concrete pathway the riders could show some consideration to others?

How would that work on a practical level?

WorraLiberty · 28/12/2017 00:26

How are they supposed to know the horse has pooed?

Shove an alarm up its arse?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 28/12/2017 00:27

Well they could get off the horse and lift the poo into the hedge. It’s harmless and totally biodegradable. (Actually a great fertiliser) but no one should have to roll their wheelchair or pram through it. On a narrow path it should be moved.

Floralnomad · 28/12/2017 00:29

Don’t be ridiculous , how would that work are they supposed to carry a bin bag and a shovel , and then what do they do with the bag .

kaz2810 · 28/12/2017 00:29

I'm not sure but even if they carried a small tool of some sort and moved it to the side so others could pass it would be better. I just think that because they are horses and the poo is obviously bigger the riders get a free pass to leave it with no consideration to anyone else.

So the rider dismounts, has to try and get someone to hold their horse, while they produce a shovel from somewhere (?), shovel it into the grass, put the shovel back and get back onto the horse. I am not sure that would work in RL.

RedDogsBeg · 28/12/2017 00:30

Yes, OP, perhaps you could share with us exactly how you envisage the poop scoop operation going?

yorkshireyummymummy · 28/12/2017 00:30

Dog owners get practically stoned in our village if you miss picking up a poo ever.
Horses and bloody bloody cats shit where ever they want and this is ok seemingly- drives me mad.
But .......I don’t see how someone could poo pick whilst riding a horse.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 28/12/2017 00:31

They don’t need a shovel. A glove in their pocket, lift poo and chuck into hedge. Take glove off inside out and put back in pocket.

Horse manure bags are the way forward

RedDogsBeg · 28/12/2017 00:32

Okay cross-post - are you prepared to hold their horse for them whilst they do this? Where do you expect them to carry the tool required?

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 28/12/2017 00:32

Probably the only solutions us to make it a footpath rather than a bridle way, but I suppose that if the horses were there first it is just a matter of accepting that people are taking their kids for walks on a bridle way and is therefore natural for horse poo to be present.

Osirus · 28/12/2017 00:32

It’s not that simple. As a rider, you would be aware your horse has done it but it’s not always easy to just get off and on again, especially with busy roads. Also, riders don’t legally have to.

Rossigigi · 28/12/2017 00:32

Mmmmm wait , let me park my horsepower first, then I'll get my shovel out.........

Sparklingbrook · 28/12/2017 00:32

Who is going to hold the horse on a narrow towpath while the rider sorts things out with a 'small tool'? If the tool is that small and the poo is that ginormous there could be a lot of scooping involved.

I think it's all a bit of a logistical nightmare.

Grilledaubergines · 28/12/2017 00:33

Horses don't cock a leg to poo, or slow down.l. Given these factors and the fact that the rider is seated away from the horses rear, how are they supposed to know? Rear view, under carriage mirror? Poo-cam? If it's a big issue, come up with a resolution and run with it.

WorraLiberty · 28/12/2017 00:33

A glove? Grin Grin

kaz2810 · 28/12/2017 00:33

Why not floralnomad? If they make the choice to ride on pathways which are used by lots of walkers, cyclists etc. Why should everyone else suffer. They are effectively blocking a pathway .

Why is it not acceptable for my little terrier shit a small sausage on the path for the OP to dodge but completely fine for a turd the size of my terrier be left behind?

MyKingdomForBrie · 28/12/2017 00:34

Dog and Cat Poo has dangerous toxins and can cause illness. Horse poo is harmless. It’s part of the countryside and always has been. You don’t stop and gather in your exhaust fumes as you drive past. Just knock it out of the way with a stick if you can’t wheel the pram round.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 28/12/2017 00:34

That’s brilliant designed! I’ve never seen those before.

Sparklingbrook · 28/12/2017 00:34

If you can think of something you could run it by Dragons Den and make a small fortune.

Rossigigi · 28/12/2017 00:34

A glove to lift poo......... you do realise exactly how many handfuls that would be, right???...

MintyChops · 28/12/2017 00:34

YABU and ridiculous.

ButteredScone · 28/12/2017 00:35
