Skiing in early pregnancy- Would you? Have you?

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

This is all a bit hypothetical really as who knows what will happen in the future etc but I’m looking for opinions on this...

We are planning to TTC our first baby around end of October 2018. We are also committed to a ski holiday over Christmas 2018. IF I got pregnant on the first go (unlikely, I know), I’m guessing I’d be around 8 weeks pregnant, maximum.

I’m a fairly experienced skier, but like to ski at a leisurely pace and wouldn’t be racing around/doing jumps/off piste etc. I rarely fall (but sometimes do!)

I appreciate you can never foresee accidents - other people skiing into you etc...

WIBU to still ski? At that stage, would my risks be ridiculously high if I were to fall? Or would it be negligible?

Sorry if anyone thinks I’m crazy here but looking for honest opinions/experiences.

Skied at 10 weeks because holiday had been booked, stayed off the blacks and out of hot saunas etc and it was fine, wouldnt make a point of it though.

I felt very nervous but did go when 6 weeks pregnant, it was our honeymoon.
You can take the risk but must be very careful

I skied while pregnant. Up to 6 months (as that is when the slopes shut!) I skied pretty much everything (just not off piste or jumps). You rarely fall forward in skiing as momentum means your feet move faster than your body do you end il know your back!

I skied 16 weeks pregnant. Am a cruise the blues type fairweather skier. Had one hairy fall that rattled me but all was well. Depends how you feel yourself about risk etc. I have to say my level of fatigue weeks 6-12 left me for for nothing but naps so I wouldn't have gone then anyway.

I do remember that week was the first week I felt the eyelash twitchy fluttery sensation of baby's 1st movements Wink she's now 9 years old xx

I did, at about 8 weeks both times, having checked with GP and midwife. They said in early pregnancy falling over would not be likely to case miscarriage as foetus still protected by pelvic bone.

yippyyappy · 01/01/2018 21:50

Nope. Found out I was pregnant mid skiing trip and stopped immediately.

DontbouncelikeIdid · 01/01/2018 22:34

I skied at about 4 weeks, before I knew I was pregnant. It was the only time I've ever managed to fall on my belly while skiing, but no harm done, and had a healthy pregnancy. I would do it again.

FlakeBook · 01/01/2018 23:08

Baby is protected by your pelvis at that stage. I haven't been skiing but have been horse riding. Same principle re falls etc.

I wouldn’t go skiing then based on my first pregnancy. In early pregnancy I felt like I had a terminal illness and was dying. I couldn’t get out of bed until 8am (the time I was supposed to start work!) and I had to go to bed at 8pm as I was practically dead. I also felt more nervous about stuff. My husband had just bought a new car and I pootled along in it really really slowly instead of enjoying it!
It’s too hard to guess how your pregnancy would be and how you’d feel about it all when no one knows. Could be absolutely fine or you could be in hospital on a drip. As long as you know it’s not anything to do with mind over matter. It’s pot luck.
Good luck with whatever you decide!! Smile

You shouldn’t put off trying after your event October but you may not be skiing- that’s life. An experienced skier being careful will be fine baby wise but your own health is the real factor. I am almost 20 weeks and still can’t do an energetic day - now the illness has faded the pelvic pain has set in Hmm
