to think only absolute lunatics use epilators?

Jesus Christ these things are not for the faint hearted.

Is there a nack to this? Should I use it wet (I'm trying dry, after a shower and exfoliation)? Should it be used on short hair (my legs are pretty hairy at the minute to be fair)? Should I drink alcohol while doing it?

AIBU in thinking you need to be nuts to prefer this to shaving?

It's okay when you've done it for a long time! I do bikini area and thighs. Have a drink beforehand and just do it!!

I bought one shaped like a spring for my mustache and it got stuck on my face.

MrMeeseekscando · 27/12/2017 17:20

It really does get easier with use.
Full legs and bikini line here!
Double 'ard me.

How come I can wax but not use an epilator?

MargaretCavendish · 27/12/2017 17:24

I once tried epilating on the advice of a friend who trilled that it 'barely hurts at all!'. I quickly concluded that my friend was a lunatic and I've never trusted her advice on anything ever again.

l do everything with an epilator. And besides the odd single hair, l don't need to do my armpits now. Done my legs for years, and five years ago l had a full Hollywood wax, then just kept on top of it with the epilator. Yes, it hurts, but the shorter the hair is the better, and it's only for a short while. Well worth it for the results!

I used to use one on legs and bikini line 😂 I found it caused lots of ingrowing hairs

Hushabyelullaby · 27/12/2017 17:34

I epilate my legs and yes it absolutely does get easier. At first it bloody hurt, but I found if I persevered it became so much less painful. I have MS and have little feeling in my legs now, but started epilating when I did. I used to have such thick black hair growth, now you have to look closely to see it, even when the hair has grown. I've now been doing it for 10 years. I can not do under my arms though, it just hurts too much -
I grit my teeth and do my bikini line.

NatalieRushman · 27/12/2017 17:34

First time I used one, I almost cried. And that was doing it in a bath after a half hour soak. After 8 years though, I'm pretty much desensitized to it. Just persevere Grin

SpadesOfGlory · 27/12/2017 17:43

I tried one leg. Once. The agony was unbelievable! Way worse than waxing IME.

I think I have a fairly low tolerance for pain caused by plucking hairs though. Before my wedding I had a brazillian, upper lip and leg wax no problem, but started crying actual tears of pain after about half an eyebrows worth of threading. Agony

JaneEyre70 · 27/12/2017 17:45

It gets better, I do my lower legs and underarms without even blinking now. As the hairs get thinner, it gets much much easier. I love that I only have to do it once every 3/4 weeks, even in summer. Best invention ever.

I didn't think epilators were meant to be used on "intimate areas"?
