DH has OCD. Mostly about germs (although light bulbs, light switches and dog muck ) also have minor starring roles. As a disclaimer, we've been married for 14 years and normally rub along fairly well but....
My DM was admitted into a hospital a couple of hours away from us in the middle of December suffering from pneumonia. She is still there but hoping to be discharged at the beginning of January. My DF asked if we would mind visiting yesterday, which also happened to be DS birthday. So,we trotted down, cooked Christmas lunch for DF and then all went to visit DM in hospital.DH stood the entire time that we were in with DM ( after telling us all he could feel the germs crawling up his legs and arms!) He spent fifteen minutes wiping his hands, arms and car keys, steering wheel off with anti back wipes when we got back in the car ( much to the complete amazement of my DF) When we got back to our home,he insisted that all our clothes were washed immediately and we all showered so that we could be 'decontaminated.'
AIBM to tell him that I never want him to go to see DM in hospital again as it's his issue with germs, not ours but he's making it affect both DS and I?

Did he actually want to go to the hospital?

zeebeee · 27/12/2017 12:43

YANBU. Has he had any therapy to treat his OCD?

You may wish to report your post as it contains your email address.

He needs mental health support. Please encourage him to see his GP for advice on whats available. This sounds disabling and is even impacting on others now.

Hi OP
Sorry to read your dm is so ill,I hope she's on the mend.
Yes definitely leave him at home next time,it's stressful enough with your dm ill without coping with this.
Perhaps he will be relieved not to go.

Rossigigi · 27/12/2017 12:54

Email!!!
Is he currently receiving any support from the mental health team with this?

TroelsLovesSquinkies · 27/12/2017 14:11

He needs some help from proffesionals, he can't impose his ocd on other people like this, he doesn't get to decide you all need showering for germ removal or anything else.
Hope you Mum is home soon.
