Why do Inlaws have to be rude??

OK I know all Inlaws are not rude, but some are. MIL, FIL AND BIL all live far away(in a different country) and so we only see them 3-4 times a year for a few days at a time. You'd think theyd be nice, but no.
BiL came in and saw the hall paper ripped off (yes we are redecorating) and had to make a rude comment about it... Why???
Then Mil comes in and says why do we never invite dh cousin over. I'll tell you why he's vile. Entitled, spoilt and rude. Plus we are never invited to his house, which I pointed out straight away. Also I've tried many times to make friends with him and he's completely rejected me everytime. Yet apparently he was winging to Mil about it today. She had to come in and make a scene about it. They are just rude. Why? Just Why?
Aibu to think they should just be polite??? Not even the whole it's Christmas thing, just as a decent human being? Are yours like this too??

My in-laws are fine.
Reading MN there are plenty of vile ones around, sadly.

Maelstrop · 26/12/2017 21:59

No, mine are lovely. A shame you’ve ended up with rude ones. Have you spoken to your mil/bil about why they feel the need to be rude?

Bodicea · 26/12/2017 22:01

As the Mum to two boys all these MIL threads depress the shit out of me.

Yepp! Mine are rude and think I’m their free servant who after 5 weeks of have a c section, being admitted in hospital within those 5 weeks while my first born was down with chicken pox and my new born being utterly sick had to cook every meal from scratch (15 in total) not to mention the big fecking Christmas meal with no thanks at all forgot to put up holly and Christmas decorations on the bloody dinner table! I want to throw myself off the balcony!!!

Iloveanimals · 26/12/2017 22:07

Never mind about throwing myself off the balcony user I wanted to throw them off Wink
And no I haven't spoken about the rudeness directly, though I do correct when they are rude and state the truth.

No. My MIL is one of my favourite people in the world.

Your examples aren’t all that bad really on the face of it
