If I take 4 year old ds to see new star wars?? It's a 12A!
Never crossed my mind I thought it would be a 15 cert, then lady in shop asked if he'd seen (storm trooper on hat) I said no - is it not a 15? - she said it's a PG, i went Oooo let's go.
Checked online it's a 12A, which you can take under 12s in if they are with adult. So I'm a little concerned he's too young. He's seen the originals recently, but they are U cert.
Opinions please x

I think you'd be a bit mad to take a 4 yo to that - it's a 12A for a reason.

It's 2 and a half hours long. Much better to wait until you can watch it at home. My 9 year old started getting ants in his pants after about 1:30hrs.

elliejjtiny · 26/12/2017 21:15

I wouldn't. I have a 4 year old and I haven't taken him to the cinema at all yet, he can't sit still for even a short film yet.

Valerrie · 26/12/2017 21:18

It's fine, but very long.

TheClaws · 26/12/2017 21:18

It is a really long film. And there are some scenes not really suitable for younger kids.

laura6032 · 26/12/2017 21:19

he's been to Cinema few times, does sit quite happily to watch, but yeah, it's the content and length, maybe DVD better idea, thanks x

General guide is no younger than 8 for a 12A. As pps have said, it's very long at 2.5 hours. The BBC say:

^Moderate violence includes gunfights, aerial dogfights between spaceships, and use of lightsabers and other hand-held weapons. Blood and injury detail is limited and brief.

There is occasional mild threat and infrequent mild bad language ('ass', 'bastard', 'bloody').^

My 4 year old has seen it and I know another child in his class is going. I haven't seen it but my husband went to see it first and felt it was ok for him. He did actually sit through the whole thing and really enjoyed it. (Admit to feeling a little worried that the consensus so far is a definite no though Hmm)

Maelstrop · 26/12/2017 21:50

TBH, I wouldn’t. I saw it last week and I was genuinely concerned about the 6 year old with his grandparents. It really isn’t suitable for a youngster and I actually think he’ll be frightened. It’s quite violent.

ruleshelpcontrolthefun · 26/12/2017 21:57

I'd say only you know your child tbh. I wouldn't take my own 4yo. She had nightmares after a particularly perilous episode of Paw Patrol and is very sensitive. I wouldn't let her watch a PG if I hadn't already watched it first let alone a 12A but that is me responding to my own child. If you think your DC would enjoy it then go for it. I wouldn't think anything of it if I saw a 4yo in watching it.

Littlebelina · 26/12/2017 23:16

It is no worse than force awakens and we took ds to see that when he was 4. It is very long though so that might be the main issue. DS coped well but will depend a lot on your child

TittyGolightly · 26/12/2017 23:18

DD has seen them all (she’s 7). She saw the last 2 at the cinema with DH, who went on his own to see them first so he could warn her when the scary stuff was going to happen. They’ll go to see the latest one together this week.
