To tell you to throw lillies away (if you have a cat)

Please please please - if you have a cat don't have them in the house.

My daughters cat is in the vets where I work after a panicked visit to the emergency vet at 5.30 this morning. £250 Bill for basic first aid and instruction which thank the lord in heaven we were able to take over care (I'm a student vet nurse). Estimated bill in excess of £1000 if I wasn't able to help.

All because she ate a single lilly petal that had dried out and fell on the floor. Dr was aware of dangers but a friend bought them for her and she didn't realise just HOW dangerous they are.

The cat is ok FOR NOW but symtomsare delayed acute kidney failure. Often fatal. I may have to tell my dd that her cat is going to die. It will break her (she suffers depression).

Please get rid of the fucking things

One of our cats is a pedigree, the breeder advised us not to have any plants or cut flowers in the house. Especially if a house cat as cats like to chew on grass etc, so make sure it's something safe.

Didn’t know about this! We have no cars but I buy MIL flowers sometimes and she has about 5 cats. Glad your DD’s cat is on the mend.

Cats not cars!

How is your cat now OP? Hope all is okay x

LEMtheoriginal · 03/01/2018 19:01

Cat is fine thankfully - I think the fact it was a rogue dried petal and the fact we acted so quickly was very lucky. Had the cat not been sick my dd wouldn't have noticed
