To be sad I never got a sticker.

This sort of thread often made me click and read and it's worked on me, so I hope it works on you too.

I gave blood today for the the first time. I got thank yous from the staff, a drink of squash and a biscuit. But I thought people got stickers or badges for donating. And I never got one. Sad

Anyway, I don't really care, but if you could think about giving blood next time it's near you, then I think that would make up for no sticker Wink

You used to get a little book then stickers and badges after a certain number of donations didn't you?

Honestly though, if I could donate, I'd do it for the biscuit not the sticker!

Chimera246 · 26/12/2017 15:23

You get a key ring after donation number 2, with your blood type on it!

CatOutOfHell · 26/12/2017 15:25

Did you look on the biscuit table? Stickers are ‘help yourself’ from the session at which I donate, and they are always on the biscuit table at the end. (Along with stickers for children, car stickers and feedback forms!)

I gave blood last wednesday and according to the nurse who did my needle they've had a huge shortage since the recent snow as nobody managed to get to appointments so they're desperate for donors. Well done for yours!

I'm 36 and wednesday was my 27th donation. I take the DCs with me as often as I can to try and normalise it for them because it would be lovely to think they'll grow up to donate, too. They seem to always get my stickers and chocolate biscuits by charming the nurses.

furryelephant · 26/12/2017 15:29

No idea as I can’t donate as have previously received, but well done for donating!

PersianCatLady · 26/12/2017 15:36

I have only just got to a stage where I am not always anaemia so I am afraid that giving blood would set me back into that again.

I do have the utmost appreciation for people who donate blood, especially those who do if often.

I am o the bone marrow registry though and would be prepared to donate as soon as they need me to even if the treatment needed to start today.

Good for you for giving blood, and many more of us should do x

katmarie · 26/12/2017 15:40

Thank you for donating, i used to rgularly, but can't at the moment as I'm pregnant, so I always love it when I hear about people donating, especially for the first time :)

My DD got a badge just before Xmas to mark her 50th donation. I'm so proud of her, especially as she hates needles and now frequently has to have the specialist nurse insert it as her veins have so much scar tissue.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/12/2017 16:00

I’m chronically ill now so can’t. It was always an aim of mine to do so when I was younger to overcome my fear of needles, which I did when I went through ivf. Before that I used to pass out from blood tests. Thank you for giving.

IreneDunne · 26/12/2017 16:00

Thank you for donating.

I'm permanently on medication which means I can never donate, so I'm even more grateful to those of you that do.

Thank you. Flowers

imsorryihaventaclue · 26/12/2017 16:03

I donated today and there was a roll of stickers on the coffee/biscuit station; take two next time!

lidoshuffle · 26/12/2017 16:04

I've done 75 donations and I'm sure you used to get a meal then; but it's now 100 till you do.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2017 16:12

My DS ( just turned 18) did his first donation and got a drink/crisps/biscuits then a keyring but no sticker !

I had to cancel my booking in Nov but i is really difficult finding a date that I'm available (work 4 days) they're fully booked and don't take Walk-Ins , though there's likely to be non attendances which they cannot predict, it just seems really inflexible when there's such a shortage

harrietsoton · 26/12/2017 16:21

SILLY QUESTION ALERT

I don’t actually know what my blood type is (never asked), will this be a problem or will they check this themselves at the appointment?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2017 16:48

harriet they check and when you get the letter/keyring that'll be on it.

One of the reasons DS gave blood was to find out his blood group.

I keep telling him that his Pint-of-Red will be helping to save someone , it is a good and decent thing for him to do (he was thinking about the crisps though TBH Grin )
