Can't believe posters think it's ok if she could afford it! The planet can't afford that level of consumerism, stop being so selfish and small minded.

HolyShet · 26/12/2017 16:33

I disagree with posters saying its not anyone's business to judge.

Why burden a young child with all that stuff? I actually think its unkind and joyless.

LovingLola · 26/12/2017 16:37

i don't believe a word of this.

Unfinishedkitchen · 26/12/2017 16:41

I also don’t believe this at all.

Maelstrop · 26/12/2017 16:47

Is this for real? How can she afford this?

SpoonfulOfJam · 26/12/2017 16:49

What the hell is left to get him for his birthday, and the next 5 birthdays and Christmas after that?

SukiTheDog · 26/12/2017 16:52

Good grief....the world’s gone mad. Stupidity.

Bookaboo · 26/12/2017 16:54

Can't believe it took until page 4 for someone to say this!
We are not learning anything.
How many generations of children do you think can continue to receive this level of stuff?

That’s insane. Dd gets nothing like this. We could afford to buy all these things if we dipped into savings, but why would we? Dd is 9. We don’t even have an x box, nintendo, PlayStation etc. Dd has a basic kindle fire and amongst other things this year, we bought her a boom box. She’s very happy. She gets to do lots of activities, which are costly but this suits her. I understand all children are different. But no one needs this much stuff. It’s more than enough for 8x8 yos.

paulweller73Murielswedding · 26/12/2017 17:11

Definately.

paulweller73Murielswedding · 26/12/2017 17:12

Is this your child?

ferntwist · 26/12/2017 17:13

I actually feel sick looking at that list. What will he have to look forward to in the future? And your sister than asking you for a loan til next month - totally irresponsible.

paulweller73Murielswedding · 26/12/2017 17:15

But how can you stop it? If he gets less next year he could be disappointed. I don't know him though so it's not my call.

BewareOfDragons · 26/12/2017 17:17

Your sister is almost certainly raising an over entitled, selfish, 'I deserve it' brat who will be very difficult to be around as they grow up. I have met grown ups who were given everything they wanted as children ... not very likable adults, most of them.

Don't lend her a penny. And don't sympathize with her when her boy treats her poorly as he grown up ... she's teaching him all the wrong things.

Saladtongs · 26/12/2017 17:20

So your sister bought this all on credit and now can't afford her daily living expenses until January so therefore wants a loan from you?

That's insane, if she has the receipts I'd be advising her to take one of the games consoles back not giving her another loan. She's raising her child to be greedy and to expect more each Christmas & it's obvious she can't afford it. What child needs a 50" tv? That's mad.

cloudyweewee · 26/12/2017 17:24

Why are some posters saying it's not our place to judge? Of course it is. That's what AIBU is all about. Yes it's way too much for one child and anyone with half a brain cells would know this.

Twoweekcruise · 26/12/2017 17:25

When I was growing up my best friend was spoilt like this. Every Christmas and birthday she and her sister would get bikes, stereos, tvs, dvd players etc absolutely loads of stuff. My friends and I were so jealous. Several years later her parents went bankrupt and now live in a caravan, they have nothing now!

cloudyweewee · 26/12/2017 17:26

Also, WTF is she going to buy him next year?!

Roomba · 26/12/2017 17:28

Bloody hell, what is she going to get him for the next ten years? He has everything he'd ever need to last to age 25 there!

I spent £80 total on DS2 to avoid going into debt - it's all I could spare. And you know what - he's declared it the best Christmas ever!

Generally my kids would get ONE of those things. And no one needs a 50 inch TV. My kids have never even asked for their own TV let alone one that would take a whole room up.

If you can afford it, none of my business I suppose. But taking on debt then having to ask for loans is utter madness!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 26/12/2017 17:31

Bloody ridiculous

Tinycitrus · 26/12/2017 17:31

I don’t believe it either

Saladtongs · 26/12/2017 17:32

Your sister has spent atleast £3k on a 10 year old and is now in financial difficulties. Childcare need to learn that toys don't magically appear, their parents work hard to provide gifts & treats at Christmas. This kind of expenditure is sheer madness for a young child.

Saladtongs · 26/12/2017 17:34

You need to show your sister this thread so she can gain some perspective. She probably thinks we all spend several thousands on our kids for Christmas.

JustHope · 26/12/2017 17:38

What 8 year old needs a 50 inch tv and a laptop? Most adults would consider these things seriously big purchases for the home. Even if you can afford these things it’s way OTT.
