So I got on regional metro train (local network in Newcastle/Tyne and wear).
As I got on the front seat was empty and a women got off.
I sat down and noticed she had left her phone.
I started to knock on the window and show her the phone,I run to the train doors but they close before I can get to her.
She starts swearing and shouting at me to pull the emergency stop break button but I don't.
I know loosing your phone is awful but I thought I would get wrong.
Anyway I shout that I will hand it into lost property at the next stop (5 mins away)
So I get off the train, and do that.
Was ibu to not pull the break?
Tbh once she started swearing at me I lost all sympathy for her.

You did the right thing.

This happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago on the London Underground; bloke on train held the phone up to indicate to friend that he'd found it, doors had already closed, friend was working a long shift - but afterwards he went to the next stop down the line where his phone had been very kindly handed in by the bloke on the train!

Glad the title was misleading!

A dropped beepy brick is not an emergency, just simple lost property. You did all that was necessary.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/12/2017 13:45

You did the only thing you could do. You can't be using emergency stops for phones.
Yes its an inconvenience. I'd lay an egg if I lost mine. However it's not an emergency.
From the way you've titled your thread anyone would think you'd saw someone drop their phone and not bothered to tell them and just kept it.

KurriKurri · 26/12/2017 13:46

She sounds very stupid - you did exactly the right thing (in fact by getting out at the next stop you went above and beyond)

I've been on a train when the emergency chain is pulled. It is a big jolt, and then it takes a while for them to come round, find out why it was pulled, get the train restarted etc - so everyone would have been delayed for twenty mins/half an hour (obviously takes longer if there is a genuine emergency) so other people might have missed connections - a line of repercussions because some person thought the world revolved around her and her phone.

You did the right thing. The emergency button is for real emergencies. You could have been fined.

DD dropped hers on the train. We watched from home on the iPhone tracker as it carried on down the line. Fortunately, the guard rang her up and arranged to hand it to her on the station when the train was on its return journey.

absolutely did the right thing Xmas Grin

GoReylo · 26/12/2017 14:15

I would have handed it in at my stop, not the next one. It was good of you, but you know she won't appreciate it.

Rudgie47 · 26/12/2017 14:24

Because of her swearing and carrying on, I'd have got it unblocked and sold it.

weetabix07 · 26/12/2017 14:42

I'd be delighted if you did that for me OP.

harrietsoton · 26/12/2017 14:46

Agreed that you should not have made an emergency stop, what would you have even said to the driver when he comes over to investigate? ‘Sorry, this lady outside left her phone don’t mind me hun’ You would have looked like an absolute twat Xmas Grin

I once opened a door for someone (couldn’t open it from their side), woman walks in and instead of saying thank you says - about fucking time.

Some people regardless of what you do are just unpleasant. Says everything about her and not you.
