To be annoyed with DP for letting the roasting tins go rusty?

DP was on cleaning duty on Christmas eve after we cooked the turkey etc. Today I go to use the roasting tins and both of them are rusty so I'm having to use a blooming casserole dish to roast the potatoes!

AIBU to be annoyed with him? It's not difficult to clean and dry properly is It?

Surely tins wouldn’t have gone rusty in 2 days?

CheekyRedhead · 26/12/2017 12:16

Why is it just his fault?

Maelstrop · 26/12/2017 12:17

Just get him to scrub and oil them. Mine are forever going rusty.

Ilovetolurk · 26/12/2017 12:17

Was it Christmas Eve 2015?

CurlyRover · 26/12/2017 12:22

No Christmas eve this year. I don't understand how they've gone rusty in two days tbh! I definitely used them Christmas eve and they were fine!

How do I get rid of the rust? I've tried scrubbing them but they're still just as orange!

Aren’t everyone’s a bit rusty? That’s what happens when they are used a lot and go through the dishwasher...

Ilovetolurk · 26/12/2017 12:26

No idea OP

On the plus side its only iron oxide. Will help with the browned appetising appearance and provide additional important minerals

BarbaraofSevillle · 26/12/2017 12:31

This is why we use disposables. Maybe about one a month on average and I refuse to feel guilty about it as there are lots of things that lots of people buy lots of that we almost never buy like cans or plastic bottles of drink).

The amount of work and chemicals required in keeping roasting tins nice is too much.

CurlyRover · 26/12/2017 12:43

Ahh chippy so it could just be that they've been through the dishwasher?

Well ilovetolurk I'm always being told my iron levels are low...

I really don't understand how they could have gone rusty.
Mine go in the dishwasher and no rust. Don't rush to empty it either.

But anyway. make sure the tray is still damp, coat in baking soda. Leave for an hour or so. Then scrub with a scourer. Dry. To stop it happening again, coat in oil.

Teaonthelawn · 26/12/2017 12:54

Coat with a paste made out of baking soda and vinegar. Leave for 60 mins and wipe/wash clean. Magic on bits of rust, dried on burnt bits.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 26/12/2017 12:58

Just line them with tinfoil and use them.

treeofhearts · 26/12/2017 13:01

Boiling water and biological washing powder and leave them to soak overnight. They'll be good as new in the morning.

gobbin · 26/12/2017 13:21

I have had IKEA tins for YEARS and no rust (stainless steel ones).
If yours are the black speckly enamel type and they’re rusty then bin and replace, it means the enamel has started to wear away.

CurlyRover · 27/12/2017 16:27

They're the black enamely ones gobbin. It sounds like we're about time for some new ones then.

Mine are rusty - I’m minding with foil until I get a new set
