To think Next are horrible to their staff?

Next stores opened at 0600 this morning for the first day of their sale, which means their staff had to get up in the middle of the night on Boxing Day. I doubt they were given any choice about this.

Other retailers, e.g. M&S, Tesco & Sainsbury's opened at 0900. John Lewis /Waitrose doesn't open at all on Boxing Day.

I understand that this is the busiest time of year for retailers, and that retail staff know what they are signing up for, but surely Next's decision to open at such a ridiculous hour is both unnecessary and unreasonable?

I've never had much luck with George or TU, and I check the materials of the clothes I buy. Most of George and TU clothings are polyesters, just like Next sales items.

My point was people were complaining about the styles, not the price. Personally I think Next style is fine. I don't think we all want to be All Saints or COS edgy.

I have some Next stuff, and lots of other stuff. Not expensive particularly. Depends what you call expensive. I don't have any 'designer gears'.

What's all this 'VIP' invitation about? Confused Are there differing levels of Next customer?

SammySays · 26/12/2017 21:40

A friend of mine who works for Next started at 4am this morning Shock

foodfrax · 26/12/2017 21:47

VIP slot 😂😂😂😂😂

omBreROSE · 26/12/2017 21:48

I work in Tesco. On the customer service desk. 9-3.
My first customer was a delight, furious that the lottery machine hadn’t quite finished updating at 8.59.
To check a fucking lottery ticket!
The general public are strange, and l find their behaviour even stranger that early in the morning.Grin
I’ve also been dealing with people lying about their turkey/gammon/alcoholic beverage or whatever thing they happily enjoyed, but now quite fancy a refund

I worked there as a teenager- the queue was rlund the corner and people literally ran in when the shutters opened. Saddos.

I knew what I was signing onto when I started, I was paid for being there and I got first dibbs at the sale stock (alongside a staff discount). Really wasnt too shabby.

KenAdams On CD a lot of nuclear families are free to get together as an extended family but none of them has a home big enough. So they eat out. Nothing to do with “not being bothered “.

There is no rational bright line to divide what service is essential from what isn’t, and if you are in the hospitality trade serving people during their leisure hours is part of the job.

If you have a next account, you may get an invite to access the online sale early so get stuff before it sells out and can preview what will be in the sale before it goes live.

I went in my local next last week after looking at the sale preview and knew that pretty much all the baby stuff in there would be half price today.

Luckily I managed to get some nice babygrows online. Next ones are nice quality, brightly coloured and wash well. I'd rather pay £8 for 3 pack half price in next than £8 for 3 from primark or asda.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2017 22:10

I have a Next account and yet i have never had a VIP invitation or slot or anything. Interesting.

Maybe they know I am not fussed. Grin

ijustwannadance · 26/12/2017 22:52

They have 'rules' for giving out VIP slots.
Things like you must buy x amount and keep most things and not send everything back. Etc.
I didn't get one for a few years. No idea why they sent me one this time.

TheNaze73 · 26/12/2017 23:06

I’m in total agreement with you OP. I know of no one who goes shopping on Boxing Day yet there must be people out there creating the demand.
It’s sad

greendale17 · 26/12/2017 23:09

People don't need to do Boxing Day shopping at 6AM ffs

^Agreed

Ontheboardwalk · 26/12/2017 23:14

Not Next but Sky.

I had to ring them earlier and got through straight away. Chatting to the woman whilst my box was reset (took ages) and she’d worked yesterday and today and was happy about it.

She said managers were extra nice, the extra money was good and she’d got a load of guaranteed days off for New Years.

I couldn’t be doing with shouty demanding customers at Next at 6 in the morning though.

You want to try a shift in McDonald's, princes street, Edinburgh festival. Now that's nuts!!
