To wonder where all the clothes for 30 somethings with mum tums are?

I had twins 15 months ago by emergency section and my stomach is mess - still have some diastasis and it's stretched and awful. I can't find any clothes that fit me properly, let alone flatter me. I know I cannot be the only woman with this problem so where are all the bloody clothes? Can't seem to find clothes aimed at this demographic - any tips on shops to try?

Ideally what I need are tops / dresses / jumpers that are quite fitted up top but then flow out from under the boob area. Such things must exist. I'm sick of looking like a sack of potatoes in oversized clothes. Want to do a bit of sales shopping but can't find anything! Help!

I struggle to find tops that are long enough other than awful tunic ones.

Note3 · 26/12/2017 11:32

Oh I so agree with this! Everything is too short/clingy/seethrough

AntiHop · 26/12/2017 11:33

Debenhams. The collection and maine within Debenhams.

EB123 · 26/12/2017 11:33

I have had 3 c sections and my stomach is awful. I tend to live in skater style dresses with tights or leggings. Layered with a cardigan. Then pumps or boots.

Cherrypi · 26/12/2017 11:34

I like seasalt and primark are doing some good tunics for a £10.

finnmcool · 26/12/2017 11:36

Swing dresses or skater dresses. Dorothy Perkins do loads and they often have 25% off.

Your go-to search term is 'empire waist'. It'll be a revelation.

KalaLaka · 26/12/2017 11:36

Yes! Completely agree, OP! Niche in the market that is being ignored.

I've found linen to work well. Monsoon is worth a shot.

KalaLaka · 26/12/2017 11:37

I can't stand empire line, I think it makes me look pregnant.

MadisonMontgomery · 26/12/2017 11:38

Have you looked at Boden? I find their clothes are cut generously at the stomach and generally a flattering style.

MagicFajita · 26/12/2017 11:38

I agree with Finn.

I'm 8 weeks postpartum and living in dp swing dresses and stretchy skater dresses right now.

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 26/12/2017 11:39

I like the primary high wasted skinny jeans.

They tend to hold a tummy in brilliantly.

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 26/12/2017 11:39

Primark even.

Tinkerbec · 26/12/2017 11:40

I have a lovely long top from yoins.

Think the young uns wear them as a dress. More of a top though.

TammySwansonTwo · 26/12/2017 12:03

Thanks everyone - will check out your suggestions. I've never really been into empire line stuff before but I used to have a waist so needs must. Just haven't seen much empire line stuff this year so maybe it's not "in fashion" right now.

The other issue is that my body is quite short so stuff that has a normal height waistline is too low on me so looks crazy.

Really need to try things on but can think of little worse right now!

I find some seasalt tops good for this

RestingGrinchFace · 26/12/2017 12:06

Fat face do a lot of cling at your boobs and generously skirt over the rest tryor tops.

TammySwansonTwo · 26/12/2017 12:09

I've had a few from fatface in the past but this year I couldn't see any on their site. Might have to brave the shops in person shudder

I'm short too Tammy and find dorothy perkins okay for body length and skirt length.

Girlsworld92 · 26/12/2017 12:12

I'm 37 & have a Mum tum. I bloat really easily. I find the problem is that nobody really caters for our situation. Still want to look fashionable and feel good without paying a fortune but too old for the stuff the kids wear and to young for the stuff your Mum wears. There's a gap in the market for sure.

Redken24 · 26/12/2017 12:13

Topshop high waisted jeans and longline tops can wear anything over well I do anyways hah

pastabest · 26/12/2017 12:50

Another recommendation for Dorothy Perkins and (skater dressers in general) Shame so many of them are closing down.

TammySwansonTwo · 26/12/2017 14:21

I haven't had the best luck with skater dresses in the past but my shape is different so I'll try some. My problem is that because of the diastasis my belly starts jutting out really high up. Had a quick look on the DP site - will order a few skater dresses but still can't find any empire line long tops. There are so many lovely looking things but I know I'll look like a whale in them (boo).

As soul destroying as it is, some maternity stuff also works. It has to be gathered under the boob stuff but I've got a few flattering tops that work and don't look 'obviously' maternity.

French Connection used to do some lovely tops, nicely gathered under boob to hide a multitude of sins.

Also, tops which have a jersey back but a heavier material front work well over high waisted jeans.

Even before I had a baby my tummy was my problem area. I've bemoaned this for years. Kim K is all about the ass. Beyoncé champions the thick of thigh. Where's our celebratory endorsement for the mum tum??!!

Chrisinthemorning · 26/12/2017 14:29

I find batwing style tips and jumpers with a blouson waist flattering- look at mint velvet and phase 8.
