Gifts from SIL and BIL are generally sporadic, no gifts for the kids on birthdays (despite us always buying for their child who is 10 years older than my eldest), and sometimes we'll get a Christmas gift sometimes we won't. We always get something for them. This year I decided that a small homemade gift would suffice for the parents and a decent branded tshirt for their teen. Today arrives and we are all given decent, thoughtful gifts. Part of me feels guilty for not going out and buying something, but the other part of me thinks I at least sent something.

We're in the same boat, doesn't it feel Scrooge like?

We've not received gifts from ILs for 4, maybe 5 years, we've always bought them gifts, they never use, and I quite often leave Christmas with them feeling a bit humiliated.
They always buy gifts for everyone else, just not us. This year I got a lovely ted baker set as did DH.

Didn't I feel like a cunt when DH handed over present and card, it was a storage device- with card that had Mrs brown on.... my cards and gifts are often very thought out!
