Is it safe??

Yes!

The amount of gravy that will be eaten the alcohol will be very minimal

Rinceoir · 25/12/2017 14:20

I’d assume so as long as it’s not too much. Most of the alcohol cooks off. There’s a slug of brandy in my gravy as welll as wine!

LaurieMarlow · 25/12/2017 14:20

Yes, absolutely

BusyBeez99 · 25/12/2017 14:20

Yes it will be fine

Been putting wine in casseroles for child since he was a toddler

Unescorted · 25/12/2017 14:20

Yes the alcohol will evaporate before the water.

Rossigigi · 25/12/2017 14:21

It should be as when you heat it the alcohol is 'cooked out' (I don't know the technical term for it)

Assburgers · 25/12/2017 15:59

Genuinely thought this was a list of things you’d spilt on your toddler & you were looking for stain removal advice Grin

missladybird · 25/12/2017 16:29

Ok so no damage? I'm so paranoid about alcohol

It will have cooked off.

I was inadvertently served a small glass of fairly potent homemade wine as a toddler - it had been stored in an apple juice bottle in the fridge and not relabelled. The story goes that I downed it and asked for more, which was when it was noticed Grin

It didn't do me any harm!

BusyBeez99 · 25/12/2017 18:58

I had a sherry at my nans as a treat when I was little. No harm done ;)

MistressPage · 25/12/2017 19:46

My toddler nicked a bit of my cider earlier...

DonutDiv · 25/12/2017 19:48

Ive just started a thread like this. I just gave DD4 Limoncello Mousse.
I thought it was flavoured lemon.

TheDowagerCuntess · 25/12/2017 19:57

I thought you meant, is it safe from a accident/staining point of view!

Our Christmas cake has rum in it, and the trifle has sherry, neither of which are cooked off, and the kids eat them.

Voice0fReason · 25/12/2017 22:09

Alcohol reduces slightly but it doesn't evaporate and won't cook off in a gravy. However, the amount in a toddler serving of gravy will be very small so it's not worth worrying about.

wellthatslife · 25/12/2017 22:16

One Xmas pil couldn't work why all the kids(dh and his cousins) were getting very giggly, then they discovered that not only had mil put a slug of sherry in the trifle but so had her sil, dm etc! The kids had got tipsy from it!

crunchermuncher · 25/12/2017 22:22

Since when does alcohol not evaporate? It evaporates at a lower temperature than water (which is why if you over heat your mulled wine it loses most of the alcohol and you get drink on the fumes instead). It'll be fine.

berwickswan · 25/12/2017 22:37

I learned to cook in Italy and most of my regular routine cooking contains white or red wine. The alcohol cooks out...

Voice0fReason · 25/12/2017 22:44

Since when does alcohol not evaporate?
It's one of those myths that people assumed must be true but simply isn't.

missladybird · 25/12/2017 22:56

I'm not worried.

Oops sent too soon.. lots of recipes use wine and are recommended for the whole family so a tiny bit isn't going to hurt. I wouldn't serve it to her if it was me cooking but I'm sure a tiny bit of gravy with some in isn't going to hurt
