AIBU not to clean up after Xmas dinner?

Yesterday we had a Christmas dinner at my in laws. I've been with DP for 8 years but due to distance we rarely see his family so I still feel like a guest in their home, although I do try to help out on the rare occasions I am there.

Just as I asked FIL a questions, SIL and MIL started cleaning up after dinner (FIL and DH had cooked). I'm not lying but FIL spent a good 30 mins answering this question which led onto his life story and how he ended up in this country (I am always impressed at how much he can talk). He was talking in English too so for the benefit of me (they would speak a different language if I was not there). There was no pause for me to excuse myself and go help tidy and I didn't want to be rude and interrupt him so I sat and listened. I think MIL and SIL are annoyed at me because I did not help them and I hate the thought of them thinking I'm lazy (when I'm just super awkward and don't know how to exit a conversation politely).

Should I mention it to them this morning or should I just not mention it and be super helpful all day.

Thanks in advance

Forget about it, just join in with the next batch or empty the bin etc.

Don't mention it and just be helpful today.
I don't like the expectation on their part that you should have helped.
Fucking families are hard work!

Yes don't mention it but be extra helpful today :)

Don't bring it up today and just be helpful.
Next time, something along the lines of "Sorry FIL, let's resume your monologue our chat in five minutes, I'll just go and see if MIL and SIL need a hand clearing up" would surely suffice? Xmas Confused

Don't worry about it. I am sure they will have enjoyed 10 minutes to catch up and natter about how idle you are in their own language Grin
