To not do a Christmas eve box?

malificent7 · 25/12/2017 00:00

I think it is quite sweet but i have decided against it for the following reasons:
More consumption/ more to buy.
Im skint
I would rather built up the excitement untill Christmas eve...a box takes the edge off the giddy anticipation imo.

Dd sleeps naked ( her choixe) so point getting pjs.

We spent xmas eve watching tv on sofa...preparing Santa/ reindeer food and stuffing our faces.

She also had a nice bath. Aibu to think this is more than adequate?

I am not buying into fancy xalenders either. I have bought loads of booze, food and great gifts though!

Why are you asking? You’ve clearly had a nice evening. Who cares what anyone else thinks? Confused

itsbetterthanabox · 25/12/2017 00:03

What’s a Christmas Eve box?

malificent7 · 25/12/2017 00:04

Just out of interest...am i missing something?? Should i embrace it?

We have never done it but we have always opened the present my lovely Auntie sends. She always sends PJs, so they get their new ones without me buying them!

Also DD1 is married with a DD and another on the way. She buys for me DP, her brother and sister and they come to us, or we go to them and exchange gifts on Christmas eve!

DD had a Lambourgini airfix car and DD2 has had a crochet unicorn kit. I had a pic of me, DD1 and DGD on a canvas. DP had a paper car kit 'to maake him leave DSs alone' and some sweets!

All good in this house without a Christmas eve box!

RunningOutOfCharge · 25/12/2017 00:06

God no

I'm glad I missed all this weird box stuff

There's now threads full of parents wondering why their kids can't go to sleep tonight!!

Full of sugar
Hyped up
Full of fear
Too hot in the sodding 'xmas pj's'!!!!

Rudolph85 · 25/12/2017 00:09

YANBU Do the bits that suit you and leave the rest. We did lots of Christmas TV, new PJs for DS1(he needed PJs anyway) DS 2 is in cosy Christmas PJs that used to be his brothers. We sprinkled environmentally friendly reindeer food (oats & rice crispies) and put out a mince pie, carrot and milk for Santa/ Rudolph. We don't need a box, the bedtime stories were library books/ Christmas themed books they had anyway and we've been reading all Dec. Agree it's just more pressure and more unnecessary consumerism.

HoneyBeeMum1 · 25/12/2017 00:12

What the heck is a Christmas Eve box?

Who is going to shocked if you don't have one?

We intend to have a magical, fun and exciting Christmas without a Christmas Eve box (whatever it is).

Confused
WaitrosePigeon · 25/12/2017 00:15

Do what you want. Nobody cares!

sweetkitty · 25/12/2017 00:15

The sodding Elf goes back to the North Pile but leaves them new PJs and a chocolate reindeer that's enough excitement. I read the little two ''twas a night before Christmas we looked out the window to feel the magic and listen for Santa and they went to bed.

sweetkitty · 25/12/2017 00:16

Yes but you must post it on Facebook along with 50 photos of matching PJs and sprinkling reindeer dust followed by photos of the 300 presents!

steff13 · 25/12/2017 00:18

YABU. I hope none of your friends/family find out and log it with the police.

Or, you could just do whatever you want.

DeepanKrispanEven · 25/12/2017 00:19

YA definitely NBU. The whole concept of Christmas Eve boxes is ridiculous.

Raggs · 25/12/2017 00:20

Sounds like you've made up your mind and want to be congratulated on your choice but as pp said nobody cares what you do in your own home.

Merry fucking Christmas Grin

numberthr · 25/12/2017 00:21

What on earth is a Christmas Eve box?!

madein1995 · 25/12/2017 00:22

I've not got kids but I think xmas eve boxes are overpriced rubbish. We do have new pyjamas and slippers on Xmas eve but that's a family tradition that's been going on since my mam was a little girl, we've not just jumped on the bandwagon. I find wooly jammas was too hot so have a nice pair of cotton tatty teddy ones. Agree there's no need for it, I would miss it of we didn't do it but that's because it's been a tradition for years.
They're usually overpriced. Pyjamas (that you could otherwise get cheap in a sale), mince pie and carrot which most people already do and cost very little, a book which you can get one year and reuse and sweets very similar to the ones you've already got in. Silly money and the whole getting a box thing is way more likely to get kids wound up than each little thing done individually. We had fuss when i was young (not so long ago) stuff like Santa stop here signs but I never remember being upset/overexcited funnily enough. Not a perfect child, just think maybe kids now get a bit overwhelmed by the pomp and ceremony of it all. Silly money too, some boxes are 20 odd quid and that's just the box Shock

SD1978 · 25/12/2017 00:23

Christmas Eve box- new thing that if you don’t do, makes you a shit parent....... to really do it properly, must buy wooden box engraved with child’s name. Then gets a new movie, pyjamas, snacks (hot chocolate , popcorn) and a new book out in it to make sure that your child has a special Christmas Eve. If you don’t do all this, and post it on Facebook, you are, indeed, a shit parent and are setting up your children for a life of anxiety and MH issues because you didn’t love them enough...........

Boulshired · 25/12/2017 00:31

I am waiting for the “Christmas eve eve box”, then the “Christmas eve eve eve box”. I do not mind them but am glad they became really fashionable after my DCs are too old. We have always opened a joke pressie on Christmas Eve but never made a box. It would bother me less but the people I know who are doing this are unfortunately the ones who can least afford it.

AdoraBell · 25/12/2017 00:32

YANBU, if you don’t want to do it then don’t.

I only give my DC pyjamas. For us it’s more about time spent. So tonight they put their Christmas pjs on and we played Monopoly.

Rumpledfaceskin · 25/12/2017 00:35

Ffs. Kids mostly get an extortionate amount of mass produced shite at Christmas. It’s ridiculous. As if The majority need any more stuff, some kids get nothing, donate the extra money to charity.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 25/12/2017 00:35

Dont forget the 1st December box too. What sort of parent are you?

RunningOutOfCharge · 25/12/2017 00:37

And the Elf. Elf on the shelf is done by the elite parents

PumpkinSquash · 25/12/2017 00:42

No Christmas Eve box here either, it just seems so excessive! They already get presents on Christmas Day with a sack and a stocking each, so a Christmas Eve box as well - just no.
As a pp said, what next? A Christmas Eve Eve box?
Meh. Well, each to their own I suppose. Do what works for you and don't stress about what others are or aren't doing! Smile

Incrediblehulky · 25/12/2017 00:50

Never done a Christmas eve box either so don't worry about it! I never even knew it was a thing! I'm not sure what all this elf stuff is either 🤔?! Happy Christmas! 🌲🍾🎄🎁🎁
