...to think that my house might be on fire?

Oh the panic.... Am I overreacting rather than am I being unreasonable?
I'm staying with family 200 miles away & have just been looking for my portable phone charger.... Which I've just remembered I left charging.. On top of my metal washing basket on top of actual material.
Oh I'm such an idiot.
I'm away for another 48 hrs
Left this morning
The only person with a key is my dog walker (I only moved in a week ago)
I've just texted him to see if he's around tomorrow & if he can pop in!!!! No reply so far & I'm now googling images of people's charred belongings & houses where chargers have overheated. Bugger.
Am I being O.T.T?

It’s not plugged into a device though? It’ll be fine

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 24/12/2017 23:20

Would you have your neighbours' phone numbers? Could you ask them to let you know if they've noticed anything?

AntiHop · 24/12/2017 23:20

It's very possible that you switched it off at the wall, so no fire risk.

Yukbuck · 24/12/2017 23:22

The chances are it'll be totally fine. Hopefully your dog walker can go and check tomorrow but it is Christmas so they might be busy!

BulletFox · 24/12/2017 23:25

You're probably overreacting :)

I got so paranoid after my house was burnt down (not me!) that in my new place every time I visited someone around the corner I'd anxiously look out at my place expecting to see billowing smoke. It never happened.

Does anyone have a key to your place? Chances of it happening are miniscule.

Haint · 24/12/2017 23:27

Is a portable phone charger an actual normal phone charger? Mine’s been plugged in for about 4 years now and hasn’t caught fire yet

Goatsandcoats · 24/12/2017 23:27

Thanks for your replies
It's plugged into the wall & def on as was only going to charge it for a bit before we left...then forgot it.
I don't have my neighbours number.
It's a small slimline one & it is sitting on material. It just seems like such a fire risk! They must overheat!?

I know its not a nice feeling but i can only imagine the look on your dog walkers face when he got that text. :)

Cherrycokewinning · 24/12/2017 23:29

Oh sorry i see what you mean! The battery pack is charging? It’ll be fine. Honest.

Goatsandcoats · 24/12/2017 23:30

I don't think my post was clear
It's one of those power banks which is plugged in & charging ...

Goatsandcoats · 24/12/2017 23:32

Louhotel I know! He prob thinks I'm mad! He really likes my dog though so that's a bonus.
Just been reading about how easily appliances overheat.. The house is so lovely & I'm feeling so panicked.
I do have anxiety but am sure this is dangerous!

Don't some phones automatically stop the charge once they are charged? straw to clutch-

GColdtimer · 24/12/2017 23:33

They don't get hot. At least mine doesn't. I left an iron on once for 8 hours. Woukd have been longer but I heard a clicking coming from the spare room where the iron us and realised what I had done. Otherwise I would have gone to bed with it on (we'd had a car accident that could have been nasty that night too, I do feel my guardian angel was close by!). .

policeboothunter · 24/12/2017 23:34

Check it when you can but I've left one of those plugged in for a few days (by accident) before. Didn't burn the place down.

PorpoisefullyObtuse · 24/12/2017 23:34

I left hair straightener on and left the house for 4 hours today. Only on the way back did I realise what i’d done. I may have broken a few speed limits. Which I never do.

Insomnibrat · 24/12/2017 23:35

If it helps, my Pebble power bank doesn't get hot and just stops once it's charged.

Peachyking000 · 24/12/2017 23:35

Could you phone your electricity supplier and get them to temporarily disconnect you? Obviously it’ll defrost your freezer etc but it’s put your mind at ease re a fire

mistyweather · 24/12/2017 23:35

I think it would probably stop charging once it reached full so it would stop being warm then?

Goatsandcoats · 24/12/2017 23:36

If I'd left it on a hard surface is be less freaked out but it's sitting on my washing.. 🙀

Dog walker replied!
They are going to pop by tomorrow!
Hope he doesn't get drunk & forget
This is a cheapo product that cost about £8. Oh the fear....

buckeejit · 24/12/2017 23:38

Jakers, I doubt it-I've left countless things plugged into devices for weeks & all sorts left on with unlocked doors & windows wide open.

You'll be grand-no point worrying about it. Happy Christmas!!

buckeejit · 24/12/2017 23:39

You'll be good! Great dog walker 😃

mistyweather · 24/12/2017 23:39

I know it is a worry but think how many people - especially teenagers do it all the time. It is very unlikely you will be an unlucky one.

But good he can go and unplug tomo

PrinceMichaelOfMoldavia · 24/12/2017 23:41

If its any consolation I’ve just found mine on a pile of towels, plugged in. Once it had fully charged it turned itself off. X

Justaboy · 24/12/2017 23:54

Stop stressing it will be disappating hardly power at all. Just STOP worrying and enjoy your time away:)

Even if it is a cheapo one.
