To waste a new years eve oppertunity

1DAD2KIDS · 24/12/2017 08:15

My new years eve plans have fallen through. My friends party who I was invited to has had a death in the family. I don't get any other invites to parties. Last year I missed out because I was at work. This year I am kid free and not working new years eve and have new years day booked off. So what do I do? I don't want to spend it home alone. But I don't want to start asking around since I have had no other invitites. My employer have offered me triple time to work new years eve. My normal hourly rate is high so I could really clear up financialy for one easy nights work. So should I look sad and try tag onto a party of make some easy cash and waste this lovely oppertunity to have a party? I may not be kid free and/or working next new years eve.

Best decision I think

Lweji · 31/12/2017 09:40

Very good decision to take this opportunity.
Opportunities like this don't come often.
But, even working, I hope you have the opportunity to celebrate the new year, which will also, hopefully, be full of opportunities.

TheSassyAssassin · 31/12/2017 09:42

Ha. Same boat here. Childfree. Night in with cat. Or party...which will be nice but is couples and their assorted kids. Spot the single anyone? Oh well. Happy New Year! Xmas Smile

wherethevioletsgrow · 31/12/2017 10:02

How is this even a question? It's a Sunday night that just happens to be a particular day that society tells us that we must party. But at the end of the day, it's just a day. You can make cash or you can spend a load of cash. I know what I would choose. In a weeks time, NYE will be forgotten.

e1y1 · 31/12/2017 10:14

I was the same one time, couldn’t bear the thought of missing “it” on NYE.

Turns out, there wasn’t any “it” to miss, besides long queues, being knocked in to all night and having complete strangers and people you don’t like trying to kiss you.

Ugh better to spend it at home, or with close friends and family.

Last year I put comfiest Jamas on, got Pizza and watched loads of films and I bloody loved it.

Take the cash, you’ll have a blast in the January sales .

e1y1 · 31/12/2017 10:15

Ah sorry, just read your update.

Have a lovely time away.

theaveragewife · 31/12/2017 10:19

Ahh well done for being a responsible, single dad who has come onto a forum to tell lots of women how much he earns Hmm

DivisionBelle · 31/12/2017 10:58

1DAD2KIDS is a regular and constructive poster, TheAvetageWife. Plenty of women earn that pee hour, especially if freelance / self employed where you don’t get the permanent perks, and plenty of AverageSAHMs live in the income of men who earn similar.

And if your boiler breaks down on a snowy NYE, you’ll pay that amount to someone giving up a night out to fix it, or freeze.

Find another target for your bitterness and resentment, or look at yourself and work out where it comes from.

liminality · 31/12/2017 11:12

For what it's worth, it's not 'sad' to call up a pal and say your previous plans fell through and can you tag along. None of my friends would ever care about a last minute bonus liminality rocking up!

Lweji · 31/12/2017 11:31

I hadn't even noticed it was a man posting. Had to look at the username after the latest posts. So, hardly, "I'm a man and look at me" thread. Grin

theaveragewife · 31/12/2017 11:57

Find another target for your bitterness and resentment, or look at yourself and work out where it comes from Grin I’m good thanks.

CatsAndCairngorms · 31/12/2017 12:00

Well said Division

theaveragewife · 31/12/2017 12:07

Honestly, I was just commenting on what I saw - don’t tend to look at posting history when reading the threads.

It’s just every post seemed a bit off to me - kind of attention seeking with a bit of pity and availability thrown in, maybe a heady mix for some vulnerable women out there? And I do worry about women getting taken in by men they don’t know on the internet.

And yes - I know women can earn more Wink

Buxtonstill · 31/12/2017 12:13

Blimey! £30 an hour? What do you do? Work it, and then treat yourself!

DivisionBelle · 31/12/2017 12:19

“Honestly, I was just commenting on what I saw” .
As was I, wrt your post.

And even more now I see you have him down as a potential predator.

Bloody hell, I’ve seen many sorry posts from mothers whose child-free plans have been bankaxed!

Anyway, stand down, Pervert Police, he will be safely corralled away at work!

Unless of course he does run some sort of home emergency service, such as plumping: Wahay girls, he’s coming for your tappets and sprockets, oooh missus!

HNY Everyone! Don’t get too excited or miserable out there.

Dear god. You are over analysing it.

I can't see many MNetters PMing 1D2K to invite him for their own private party. Grin

Busted! BlushBlush

theaveragewife · 31/12/2017 13:04

I’ve read it again - and I stick by my view.

Lweji · 31/12/2017 13:08

Right, the OP gives no indication that he's a man (apart from username), makes no mention of feeling lonely or needing female company, £30 per hour as salary is not a fortune by any means, but he's a predator?

It's like a tiger with no teeth or claws, then.

InspMorse · 31/12/2017 13:12

WORK!!
They'll love you at work and you will have money to spend on yourself!
It's really a no brainier!!

InspMorse · 31/12/2017 13:13

Just seen update! Yes, spend extra cash on Feb. Trip with DC!

Buxtonstill · 31/12/2017 13:22

Surely if you are paid the heady amount of £30 an hour (£62k a year) then the money is not really of great consequence is it?

Lweji · 31/12/2017 14:19

That's probably why he's not sure.

1DAD2KIDS · 31/12/2017 20:45

Well I'm not sure what the negativities all about theaveragewife? I grew up poor. I've done my time, work hard, spent endless months away from home (tottaling into years), been shot at, people trying to blow me up etc. It's hardly been a silver spoon life. Life has not always been pleasant and my old job (as much as I loved it) took it's toll on me and the people around me. I'm thankful of a good job I enjoy than provides decently for me and the kids. Some of my teachers told me I would amount to nothing. I dont want to play top trumps but I think ive fairly earnt where i am today. Ive come a long way. I'm not the source of the inequalities in this world and I am only a fraction of what the bosses earn. If my skill and experiance could be replaced easily I would be paid penuts. I am just here so the bosses can make proffits out of me. Not that it much bearing on the wider world but women earn the same as men in my job (actually if I'm being technical 1 or 2 % more) (I recognise that is not the common reality for various factors). I don't know why I am the figure head of your sense of injustice? I'm just swimming away through life like anyone else. And breath......... sorry I know I shouldn't have bit, just got my goat.

Buxtonstill Surely if you are paid the heady amount of £30 an hour (£62k a year) then the money is not really of great consequence is it? actually it is. I am still recovering from the cost of the divorce (which was amicable, dred to think what a hostile one costs) and £7 grand of repairs I have to folk out for last year for the damage to my old house. Oh and the start up costs to relocate and take this job a few years ago whilst on a big pay cut of a training wage. The kids mum doesn't earn much so I don't sting her for child maint. We are comfortable but hardly living a Champaign life style. We have a modest house and I drive an old honda. But life is about ballence and the extra money is better off spending time enjoying their company and having fun. You never know what shit is round the corner but no one can take them memories away.

Anyway work is going ok. I will see news in alone in the middle of no where but finnish just before 1 and have a whole kid free (and hangover free) day off to enjoy tomorrow.

Happy New year every one.
