Xmas work - what is the liklihood?

ExH has just text to say he can't come to see our Son tomorrow as he has to work. Considering he is a labourer on a building site, tomorrow is a Sunday and Xmas eve what is the liklihood that this is true?

Ianbu to disbelieve him from past experience. He is already only seeing him once every school holiday due to a lot of absences that have affected their relationship. This is doing nothing to improve that situation.

It does seem last minute but not impossible if they need to the things up before a few days off site for Christmas.

Even though it is Sunday, I think a lot of businesses who normally would be closed are open.

It is rubbish for your son thoughXmas Sad

Namechangetempissue · 23/12/2017 19:49

I would say it is unlikely, but not impossible. He could well be working to finish an urgent or overdue job but judging by his track record, I would say you are bang on the money he just can't be arsed.
Sad for your poor son, will this be it for the holidays? No more contact arranged?

DelphiniumBlue · 23/12/2017 19:52

Unlikely he has to work, he might choose to. Although all the builders I know have already stopped, and most sites will be closed till after New Year.
Did he seem upset, did he ask if he could see DS at a different time? You'd have thought that if he really did have to work at the last minute, he'd be trying desperately to make arrangements to see his own son some other time over Christmas. Or even tell his employer that he can't work extra because he's seeing his son and doesn't want to let him down.
So yeah, what I'm thinking is that whether he's actually working or not,he's made a choice here.

I work in construction. Your ex’s story is unlikely but not impossible. Most sites that I know finished early yesterday afternoon. Could be that the site manager is under pressure or contractual obligation to deliver something/phase of the site/reach a particular stage by the end of the year.

Angrybird345 · 23/12/2017 20:11

Bollocks!

minicheddars90 · 23/12/2017 20:22

Work in the construction industry, never known a site to allow work on Sunday, let alone Christmas Eve.

All our sites shut down Friday midday until after NYE.

bettycat81 · 23/12/2017 20:22

Delphiniumblue He sent a text. Said he would call tomorrow no other arrangement suggested.

Will play it by ear but he is really taking his chances. He's a gambler.

I was gonna say bollocks too. My dh is in construction and he finished on Wednesday.

Amanduh · 23/12/2017 20:40

The two sites near me are working until 4pm tomorrow - new build estates. Unlikely yes but not impossible

Usernamegone · 23/12/2017 20:48

I used to work in construction. It is theoretically possible your exh could be working. However construction is normally an industry which completely shuts down over Christmas.

teaiseverything · 23/12/2017 20:51

DH is in construction. Unless the client has thrown a hissy fit about something and it's non-noisy work or being done without council permission (not allowed but not unheard of), he's talking nonsense. Can't say 100% though sorry.

Sanch1 · 23/12/2017 20:58

Unlikely. I work in construction and I have never known a site be active on Christmas eve. There is usually a whole week shut down, some of my sites shut down Fri 15th until 2nd Jan.

stickytoffeevodka · 23/12/2017 21:03

Very unlikely. DP finished yesterday and doesn't go back until the 8th.

Many thanks for your replies. I remain open to being proven wrong...
