About reoffering a freecycle item

I seem to be in a bit of a rage today so here's another.

Have a peice of furniture we don't need. To be completely honest, we don't have a car so it will be a faff to get rid of so the person who collects it will also be doing us a favour as well. It's curruntly in the way. We can't put it outside. It will fit in a normal car.

I offered it on freecycle. The person no showed.

I readvertised it as I couldn't he bothered to go through all the emails. Put on the ad it needs to go ASAP, first person gets it. This was Wednesday. Got a request, replied saying you can have it but it needs to go ASAP. He said he needed to arrange a lift. I said fine but it needs to go ASAP. I've emailed a few times since asking him when he can collect.

Yesterday I told him, if he doesn't give me a collection time by today I'll offer it to the next person. He replied with a sob story about why he needs it and why he hasn't sorted a lift. He said he'd do it that evening but then nothing.

I sent another email this morning saying give me a collection time or I'm reoffering it to the person who responded after him. We need it gone and it's something other people will want/use.

But now I'm feeling guilty. Plus, when do I say, he's had long enough and offer it again and what if the next person can't collect any time soon either?

Reoffer it. People on Freecycle are a pain in the arse.

Don't mess about on freecycle. If they can't pick up when you need contact the next person. That's how it works.

Freecycle is a fucking nightmare. Such a shame as it is a great idea, but is full of pisstakers. I found it better standing something outside my house with a FREE sign on it than dealing with the faff that is freecycle!

WillowWept · 23/12/2017 12:27

Once I've been messed about a bit and tend to put a message saying the item is available for collection on drive, first come first served. It's usually gone same day.

Ifyouseeapolarbear · 23/12/2017 12:30

Offer it to the other person and whoever picks it up can have it and then send a message letting the other one know. It's not worth waiting days or listening too much to sob stories as so many people mess you around on these sites. Unless you want to hang around hoping that the person messaging you is genuine and committed to picking it up it makes more sense to arrange it to be collected by whoever can pick it up first. That's a fair way of doing it rather than trying to work out e.g. who needs it most.

No need to feel guilty, his problems aren't your responsibility. As long as you're up front about your needs, the most you owe him is to let him know when it's no longer available to him, so that he doesn't faff around needlessly arranging a collection.

AnathemaPulsifer · 23/12/2017 12:33

Definitely reoffer. If he hasn't come before now yet he probably won't, and in any case you're well within your rights to the first person who can remove it. I offer it to person with earliest proposed collection time and make it clear it will go to the next person on the list if they mess me around.

Put it on your driveway with a notice saying £5. It'll be stolen in a heartbeat! Job done

Freecycle is a great idea but so full of timewasters
