To think a garden fork suddenly appearing on my roof is pretty freaky.

I am freaked out. I live in a two storey terraced house, with a small one storey 'return', sticking out the back. The roof of the return is shared between us and NDN (who are lovely).

I looked out the back bedroom window tonight, which is directly above this one storey roof, and there on the roof, was our garden fork. Specifically, it was balancing on the apex of the roof, at the back, near our and NDN's back bedroom windows.

I'm really freaked out. Someone would have had to have climbed up to put it there. But why? It's so freaky, we thought it could have been some sort of sign or warning. But there's no reason for that.

Or it could have been the beginning of an attempted burglary, but there are easier ways into the house.

Any ideas?

Shite. Would you call the police if you were me?

I would ring the local station and see if they have a crime prevention officer who could give you some advice but these may be a thing of the past now.

Also look for footprints/ marks on walls. It'd be difficult to get the fork there and leave no other signs.

Starryskiesinthesky · 23/12/2017 09:16

I'd definitely ring the police. They like to know what's going on. We had people steal our garden spade from the shed to break into our neighbours.

It's a garden fork for Christs sake, not an attempted burglary Grin
As if the police haven't got anything better to do!

What because a garden fork miraculously ends up balanced on your roof and it's just.. normal?! Hmm

TinselTwat · 24/12/2017 21:23

No it's not normal. I said upthread I thought it was odd. Not everything that is odd is a police matter.

NDN teenage daughters messing around while home alone last night?

BubbaLips · 24/12/2017 21:34

any luck finding out what happened op?

Rainatnight · 24/12/2017 22:22

Sorry, forgot to update.

Turns out there's been a spate of burglaries and attempted break-ins on our street and the surrounding ones using, guess what? Garden implements to force open sash windows.

Judging by the time of one of the near by break-ins and the time I came home the other evening, my guess is that I disturbed them, so they ran away, leaving the fork on the roof.

Mystery solved, though not at all nice, especially for one poor guy a few doors up whose house apparently got completely trashed.

Oh christ, definitely not just a prank then! Glad you got off - sad for the man up the road. :(

Rainatnight · 27/12/2017 07:20

So sad for him. He's away for Christmas. I heard yesterday that he got a call from his bank about suspicious activity on a bank card he knew was at home. He rang our (amazing) corner shop to ask if they knew anything, and they had to tell him what had happened.

We're about to go away, so we're having extra window locks and a security light fitted in the back garden today. Hassle!
