To ask what you'd do regarding this compensation

Not me, but a family member went through this and I wanted people's thought on what you'd do in the situation.

You're getting a train directly to the airport for a trip away, the trains are all delayed due to a blockage on the line.
Rail replacement services are on but it means you're looking like you're going to miss your flight anyway.
You get to a station 35 miles from the airport and find a couple of young girls who would be willing to share a taxi. They aren't going to the airport they're going to a nearby hospital for a consultation with a specialist, oncologist, she has been on a waiting list to see specialist and risks missing her appointment.
The taxi driver states it will be £110 to the hospital/airport. You all pile in and the two parties pay £55 each. Because you're the last dropped off you get the receipt for £110 from taxi driver. You catch your schedules flight.
When back from your trip, as stated on the day of the delay you go to claim for losses from the train company, which includes the taxi fare.

Do you claim for £55 or use your receipt to claim for the £110? Honest answers please Smile (you don't have the contact details for the girls going to hospital BTW)

It's definitely wrong, but I'm skint and would claim for the whole amount.

Liara · 22/12/2017 21:19

Claim the whole amount. If you feel guilty about keeping it/don't need the money then donate half to the hospital, but the train company should pay the cost of their crapness.

jarhead123 · 22/12/2017 21:20

Whole amount

WishingOnABar · 22/12/2017 21:23

Honestly I would claim the whole amount because if you gave the receipt then said half only because I shared the cab, they might insist you prove the cab was split 50/50 and not 3 or 4 ways, which you cant do without the other people. Take the difference as compensation for the inconvenience and stress they caused

Amanduh · 22/12/2017 21:26

All of it

ny20005 · 22/12/2017 21:27

Claim the whole amount & donate half to a charity of your choice

Sweetpotatoaddict · 22/12/2017 21:28

Claim the whole amount and donate half to the oncology unit.

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/12/2017 21:28

Claim in all and give half to a cancer charity.

grumpysquash3 · 22/12/2017 21:29

I think you'd have to claim all of it because the admin will be too difficult otherwise.
You could donate £55 to the hospital or to a charity of your choice.

Brandbrandbrandy · 22/12/2017 21:34

Claim all of it. That is the amount the train company owes.

It’s a shame you didn’t exchange details with the other petty as they would be entitled to compensation but wouldn’t be able to claim since they don’t have a receipt.

Glumglowworm · 22/12/2017 21:44

The whole amount

Consider the extra as compensation for the stress and inconvenience

rudolphslittlehelper · 22/12/2017 21:46

Don't you just get the cost of the train fare from the company? The rest would be claimed on your travel insurance.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 22/12/2017 21:53

All of it but give £55 to a cancer charity/the hospital.

JennyOnAPlate · 22/12/2017 22:04

Claim it all and donate half to cancer research.

JagerPlease · 23/12/2017 07:17

All of it - although I've never heard of a train company who would compensate for taxi expenses as it's not a requirement of delay repay rules

JennyBlueWren · 23/12/2017 07:34

Whole amount but if you had a way to contact the others send on their half. If not use it for something worthwhile/donate it.

Fairylea · 23/12/2017 07:38

The right thing to do would obviously be to somehow contact the others and give them their share but with no way to do that I would claim for the whole amount. I’d like to think I’d be very good and donate half to charity but I’d probably just keep it. Blush
