Not me, but a family member went through this and I wanted people's thought on what you'd do in the situation.
You're getting a train directly to the airport for a trip away, the trains are all delayed due to a blockage on the line.
Rail replacement services are on but it means you're looking like you're going to miss your flight anyway.
You get to a station 35 miles from the airport and find a couple of young girls who would be willing to share a taxi. They aren't going to the airport they're going to a nearby hospital for a consultation with a specialist, oncologist, she has been on a waiting list to see specialist and risks missing her appointment.
The taxi driver states it will be £110 to the hospital/airport. You all pile in and the two parties pay £55 each. Because you're the last dropped off you get the receipt for £110 from taxi driver. You catch your schedules flight.
When back from your trip, as stated on the day of the delay you go to claim for losses from the train company, which includes the taxi fare.
Do you claim for £55 or use your receipt to claim for the £110? Honest answers please
(you don't have the contact details for the girls going to hospital BTW)
