AIBU to become disproportionate with these drivers?

I have bad days. I can’t say I’ve never had a lapse in concentration as a driver and forgotten to indicate or thank someone giving me way...
But when people pull out on me, cutting me up unnecessarily when there is a huge gap in traffic behind me, and then continue to drive at least 10mph under the speed limit, breaking randomly to let every single person in the world in, it gets me feeling so bloody pissed off.

I try to talk myself down - these benevolent pace-challenged drivers obviously set off with plenty of time. I shouldn’t be so damn late all the time... but it still annoys me for longer than it should.

I know I’m being VU. I should try not to be so late.

Is it just me? What grinds your gears on the road?

Aah my rage is reserved for people who insist on sticking rigidly to 40mph on the generally quite straight, wide roads leading to my village that are national speed limit, but then on entering the clearly marked 30mph residential area will continue to travel at 40mph.
They aren’t driving safely at a low speed, they appear to have just decided that they must travel ar a constant speed of 40 irrespective of the area they are in Angry

Somethingfantastic89 · 22/12/2017 00:10

Lorries and other huge metallic machines on country roads that don't use the openings on the left to let cars overtake them. More than once, I've been stuck in a long queue of cars going at 15 mph for more than 20 miles because some lorry driver doesn't know manners/law.

GetOutOfMYGarden · 22/12/2017 00:15

I had a bloke in an audi today who overtook a line of cars to get into the gap in front of me. Which was a bloody box junction with everyone in front of him stopped by the lights. Which then stopped the traffic on the other side of the road because nobody could get past him.

I didn't leave that three car sized gap for laughs! It was because it's a busy bloody box junction!

Originalfoogirl · 22/12/2017 00:19

Middle / outside lane joggers annoy me. But not disproportionately. No point in getting wound up about something I can’t change.

Originalfoogirl · 22/12/2017 00:20

joggers

They would “really” annoy me.

Hoggers, not joggers.

stilltheykeepcoming · 22/12/2017 00:22

It's the poor sods who fit indicator lights to Audis and BMWs on the production line that I feel sorry for. What a pointless existence Grin

Unicorn81 · 22/12/2017 00:24

People who dont understand mini roundabouts
People who stop even though it is safe and no traffic (my uncle does this and has had a lot of people bashing the back of his cars)
40mph drivers
People who cant stick to their own lane and come across the front of you without realising you are having to brake because of them

rockshandy · 22/12/2017 00:27

For various reasons I am on the roads significantly more now than I was even a year ago. The driving I see some days is absolutely shocking.

There really are people who shouldn't be driving. Like the person who was driving along a NSL road at 45mph unless there were cars coming the other way, then they braked right down to 20mph. Every single time for 12 miles.

Or the person who drove at 30mph the whole way yesterday. That is becoming more and more common. Tonight it was a small lorry driving along at 30mph on NSL road but when we reached the town and the streetlights it got faster and pulled away.

But the worst is people who sit in boxes or push on through their green light with no where to go so they then block another route from going when the light turns. That really winds me up. If the roads were used properly I would say traffic wouldn't be half as bad as it is.

Margaritaanyone89 · 22/12/2017 00:27

YANBU! I feel your pain. I just want a neon board attached to my roof and a control that I can select the appropriate phrase for each situation such as "IS YOUR INDICATOR BROKEN?!", "THE SPEED LIMIT IS 30MPH". Or maybe even a tannoy with a mic attached to my top. Get a dash cam if you don't already have one to try and catch the worst ones, post it on Youtube or social media!

Alicecooperslovechild · 22/12/2017 00:34

Not driving related but definitely car related. The absolute f*ckwit who parked his Jag at the entrance to the garage car wash this morning, thus blocking the entrance for everyone else, and then went off to get a ticket to use it, not caring that there was a queue behind him waiting (with tickets) when he got back. On being, politely, called out for his behaviour said driver then stated that he was in the right and that we 'dear ladies' did not understand how the system worked.

Margaritaanyone89 · 22/12/2017 00:38

Alicecooperslovechild I hate to say it, but I might have ran him over at this point.

Alicecooperslovechild · 22/12/2017 00:41

Driving related: people that queue across roundabouts meaning that you can't pull onto it from other roads even f you don't want to ultimately join the congested road; people that don't indicate; people that appear to be waiting for an invitation before they pull out of a junction; overtly aggressive drivers, lorry drivers on the A34 who think that it's OK to pull out into the inside lane and then take 3 miles+ to overtake another lorry forgetting/not caring that other drivers aren't speed limited as they are; and, as another poster suggests the 40mph driver.

Alicecooperslovechild · 22/12/2017 00:42

Margarita - I was sorely tempted.

BakedIllaska · 22/12/2017 01:03

the ones who brake whenever they see a car coming the other way.

I have to agree, the worst. Although all of my driving is either on lanes/b roads/a roads so I don't get to experience the madness of inner city driving.

But, the key to stress free motoring, that I only learnt a couple of years ago; leave loads of space between you and the car in front.

DownstairsMixUp · 22/12/2017 01:40

People with them horrible bright lights that aren't even on full beam, wtf?

People getting aggy behind you because you were kind and let someone out ?? The other day I was crawling at 20mph so stopped to let someone out at a junction and got a load of abuse...

LemonysSnicket · 22/12/2017 14:27

Once, in a torrential downfall, I pulled off of the M1 .... completely not seeing the massive 6 axel Lorry that had done the same right behind me. I got the shock of my life in my Fiat 500 as he beeped me. I both thank the driver for his incredible swerve to avoid me but I also want to ask WHY WERENT YOUR LIGHTS ON IN A FUCKING STORM?

I don’t drive anymore.

RainbowPastel · 22/12/2017 14:43

Hesitant drivers.

People who take forever to move when the traffic lights go green.

People who don't indicate.

People who pull in every time there is another car coming the other way.

People who won't edge out when the only way to get across non-stop traffic on a main road is to do this.

People who need the space of a double decker bus to park.

UrgentScurryfunge · 22/12/2017 14:57

People that don't put their lights on until it's pitch black out. You know what if it's hard for you to see other vehicles, it's hard for them to see you too, so put some lights on so other people can see you through the rain/ gloom/ glare too. Especially in a monochrome car that blends with the road/ weather.

Iprefercoffeetotea · 22/12/2017 15:03

But when people pull out on me, cutting me up unnecessarily when there is a huge gap in traffic behind me, and then continue to drive at least 10mph under the speed limitf

This - totally. Why do people do it? Even if I have time to pull out, if there is a gap behind the car, I don't, unless I'd be holding someone up behind me.

As for other things that bug me on the roads - numbers one and two must be parking on pavements and not giving way to pedestrians crossing side roads.

But it would also help if pedestrians would not wear dark coloured coats in winter, so I could see them.

Oh just remembered people who won't turn off their full beam - yesterday I had three consecutive car drivers who didn't turn theirs off. And if I am in front of you, you don't need yours on. Especially if I don''t even need mine to see!

Tanith · 22/12/2017 15:07

The fools in the performance cars who

  1. Race each other on the A roads near us.
  1. Deliberately rev up sonic booms when travelling through tunnels. I have had to deal with shrieking children whilst trying to keep the car steady thanks to these utter morons who are clearly not grown up enough to be entrusted with any vehicle larger than a Tonka truck Angry
Iprefercoffeetotea · 22/12/2017 15:07

Oh and they were full beam, not the stupidly overbright LED lights. They're the fault of the manufacturers. My other car (Ford) has them, but yesterday I was in my older car with normal lights.

One other thing, people who block side roads when they are queuing on a main road. Leave a gap so people can turn in.

Iprefercoffeetotea · 22/12/2017 15:09

Gosh I am coming up with quite a list aren't I. But I think they bug me because they are just selfish rather than lapses of concentration. Anyone can make a mistake, but if you drive at a pedestrian crossing a road, or refuse to put your lights down, you're just being selfish.

vcrees6 · 22/12/2017 15:20

Ugly, fat and bitter ones are the most annoying

safariboot · 22/12/2017 15:25

Asshats with headlights that are brighter than the freaking Sun piss me off the most. Probably because when one's behind me they're pissing me off for ages, they're not just been and gone like most crap drivers.

And at the opposite extreme, no light cyclists. Get some lights, they sell them in bloody Poundland ffs, you've got no excuse.

And people who park in dumbass places.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/12/2017 15:37

You should try my run to work! All of this shit and more! I do motorway, A road with single and dual carriageway and some smaller roads and town driving. Consistently poor use of roundabouts, driving 10-20 mph under the speed limit so causing enormous tailbacks and congestion, incorrect use of fog lamps and full beams, cutting in when there's no sensible gap, entering the motorway at less than 40 mph; the list goes on. It is really grating. I'm not saying I'm a superb wonderful driver all of the time; I'm not sure anyone is, but I try to be as courteous as possible. Road karma is a thing! And don't get me started on mobile phone use....or the guy I saw watching a film on his iPad whilst driving on the M6.
