To stretch his tendons... It just means that he'll have 2 weeks off school and 2 weeks in school.... They may say no !!!
He's autistic too do no idea how he'll cope!

Also wishing I'd not bought him a scooter for Christmas.... Tell me this is the tight time rather than 4 weeks possibly off school!!!

They can't say "no" Confused he's not able to go for health reasons! This is definitely the right time.

The scooter...can you get him some other stuff or has he got other stuff too?

kaytee87 · 21/12/2017 04:33

How can they say no?
Has he got other presents?
It will be a tough time, sorry. Is he allowed to walk in the casts?
I'm in a non weight bearing leg cast just now due to 3 fractures and it's awful. So difficult to sleep (have been awake since 2am)

Slartybartfast · 21/12/2017 04:40

Can you put the scooter away, dont tell him?

BedtimeTea · 21/12/2017 04:42

Scooter, well can he use it in the snow in four weeks? Can you get him something to do like games, puzzles, crafts, books or films? I had a broken foot the Christmas I got new skates. If only I had been given some books to read, I would have had a more fun Christmas break.

IceBearRocks · 22/12/2017 05:47

He's got loads of other things ..... I just feel mean! He seems to be coping really well and milking it so much, he's stole mine and his sisters bacon !!!!!

Who might say no? The hospital or the school? If it's the school what would they be saying no to exactly?

sausagesandwiches · 22/12/2017 06:10

I know a child in the same situation, he has shoes provided by the hospital to wear over his casts and attends his special school with no issues

If in mainstream he may be restricted to indoors but he hasn't broken anything so they can't really use the excuse of not wanting him to worsen his injury that he doesn't have

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 22/12/2017 06:25

If he has plenty of other gifts save the scooter and give it to him as a celebration when the cast is removed. Good luck.

Sofabitch · 22/12/2017 06:28

We spent a year on orthopaedic ward. And loads of children had this done. They were usually up and walking before discharge with the special shoes over the cast. Even after surgey to cut the tendons.

Perhaps save the scooter as a getting your cast off present.

Not quite sure why he won't be able to go to school? Admittedly I had it done ~15 years ago, but I had to go in. Was made to be weight baring, no crutches or wheelchair, and after the first few days I could get around fine.

My daughter had this done last year when she was 11, new casts put on both legs every week for 2 months.

She only missed one day of school a week (the day the casts were changed) as they specified she wasn't allowed to go on that day but she attended school every other day. She was at a large secondary school with lots of stairs and managed fine luckily.

I appreciate your circumstances may be different so ignore me if so, but could you not try that arrangement with your son?
