To think this a perfectly reasonable time to be asleep?!

I've just lurched put of bed and opened the door to a very confused amazon man in my nightie. I quite often go to bed with the DC when DH is on a late shift as I'm permanently knackered with a baby and a toddler who like to tag team night waking. He asked me if I'd been asleep very accusingly and snorted derisively when I admitted I had Xmas Grin. Is it that weird to have an early night?!

Nope! Not when you have small kids!

Kentnurse2015 · 20/12/2017 20:35

I've done it occasionally with a baby and toddler but prefer having g some time to myself in the evening! This is a 24-hour society though so I guess people are in bed at all times of day (I'm a shift worker myself)

OuchBollocks · 20/12/2017 20:39

YANBU, i also have a baby and a 3 year old and a shift working husband and I love an.extra early night when DH is on a late. Sleep when you can.

MrsHathaway · 20/12/2017 20:40

It's early. The DC explain it but he doesn't have xray vision so couldn't have guessed.

Hope you're snoring again now.

CesareBorgiasSkeletonOnesie · 20/12/2017 20:40

I usually do too Kent but they've broken me the last month or so. Plus I realised that 'time to myself' would involve doing all the tidying and present wrapping that DH somehow failed to get done in the FOUR HOURS he had in the house to himself today before he went to work. So I decided I'd rather be asleep. I'm now wide awake again though thanks to Amazon man!

I think it's exceptionally early and I would be shocked to find anyone asleep at that time who wasn't working an early shift the next morning.

happymummy12345 · 20/12/2017 20:43

It's not weird. But having said that I couldn't ever go to bed so early. I like to sit and relax in the evening.

twiney · 20/12/2017 20:44

Are you on glue?

Lizzie48 · 20/12/2017 20:44

Surprising or not, his reaction was uncalled for. For all he knew, you could have been ill with flu. He shouldn't have asked you that.

I would have put a dressing gown on though.

twiney · 20/12/2017 20:45

Sorry just always wanted an opportunity to use that! Xmas Grin

TheMasterNotMargarita · 20/12/2017 20:45

There are early birds and night owls.
I'm naturally a night owl but kids have done for me. I work ft and sometimes go to bed with little dc at 6.30pm if Im shattered. I don't sleep then but read for a while and then asleep for about 8pm.

I don't really care what other people think, I need my sleep!

OuchBollocks · 20/12/2017 20:45

Yeah but WhatToDo the OP is basically on call overnight and will have an early shift in the morning with two small kids. I know that DS is often up by 5.30 and my days hit the ground running. I am exhausted by 8.30.

meredintofpandiculation · 20/12/2017 20:46

I'd find it odd to be asleep at any time before 10pm. On the other hand, nobody would expect to find me awake before 7am, or human before about 11.30.

CesareBorgiasSkeletonOnesie · 20/12/2017 20:46

Not.working an early shift but the baby always seems to need a feed around 4 and then DS1 wakes up for the day at 5 because he hates me. So I'm always awake from 4ish. I love it when DH is on an early and gets up with DS so I get to go back to sleep til 6... That's a blissful lie-in currently.

I couldn't find my dressing gown Xmas Blush.

But how would you know, unless you were friend or family, whether they were working an early shift in the morning? Or maybe they'd woken up ludicrously early the previous morning, or were ill. Loads of perfectly legitimate reasons for people to be in bed at that time. Cheeky of delivery man to be derisive. He doesn't know a damn' thing about your life.

Lizzie48 · 20/12/2017 20:51

Our DD2 used to wake up at 5am every morning, between the ages of 1 and 3. I get you, OP, 6am was a lie-in in those days lol. So I did use to fall asleep at 8pm sometimes.

JediStoleMyBike · 20/12/2017 20:53

Wonder if the delivery guy was running late and that's why he was being an arse. All our deliveries have an end time of 8pm so maybe he was behind and so more angsty with himself than you really.

sproutsandparsnips · 20/12/2017 20:55

I don't think it's unreasonable to deliver at that time, however YWNBU to be in bed at this time. Needs must and people have very different circumstances. It was rude to pass comment.

Janetjanetjanet · 20/12/2017 20:56

Of course it's reasonable.

QueenAmongstMen · 20/12/2017 20:58

When I take the baby to bed at 7-7.30pm I stay up there wth him and absolutely love getting into bed with him and staying there!!

I don't go to sleep at that time but it's definitely much needed downtime!

DotDashBeep · 20/12/2017 21:01

a very confused amazon man in my nightie

Why was he in your nightie? Xmas Grin

sorry couldn't resist... ;)

diddl · 20/12/2017 21:13

I think it's early for bed-but it's late for a delivery!

Gemini69 · 20/12/2017 21:17

My sympathies are with all festive delivery drivers ....why use online shopping if the delivery is such an inconvenience Xmas Grin

MrsHoneyMummy · 20/12/2017 21:18

My DH regularly goes to bed at 8 p.m...... he generally watches a film but more often than not I come in twenty minutes later and discover him asleep. he gets up at around 6 a.m. but is working two shifts one of which is extremely physical. So I can understand the OP being asleep at 8.30 p.m.
